At times, it is quite hard for jobseekers to resign from their current job. There can be different reasons behind this. Sometimes, it is the love of the co-workers that does not allow jobseekers to do it. At other times, jobseekers are unable to gracefully (or diplomatically) resign from their job because they cannot wait to leave. If you are really curious about how to resign from your job diplomatically or with class, this article is meant just for you. Read on to know about the strategies you need to apply before making a departure from your current job.

Strategies for Resigning from Job Diplomatically
While you resign from a job, one of the most important things to remember is that you do not leave your current employer on bad terms. Courtesy and etiquette are a part and parcel of professionalism. It is always advisable that you do not waste your time telling your co-workers about how great your new opportunity is. Professionalism always goes a long way. And you can never be too sure about whether you will run smack right into your former co-worker, supervisor or employer. Therefore, do not burn any bridges while leaving.

So, when you have finally decided to leave your current employer, you need to leave your current employer with professionalism, on good terms. Remember to abide by the company guidelines even when you are resigning from your current job.

Serve the notice period as applicable by the company guidelines. Traditionally, the notice period for resigning from a job ranges from two to four weeks. To ensure you are giving enough notice, consult the employee handbook to make a smooth transition to your new job. While you leave, also remember to get fair settlements on any kind of compensation (salary, vacation, commission etc) which may be due to you.

Another important point to remember for leaving gracefully is to offer your current employer a suitable replacement for your job position. At the same time, you can also offer to train your replacement so as not make any negative impact on the company's work procedure. Also try to complete all the work assignments which are open. Your co-workers and your supervisors may be an important part of your professional network. Make sure you do not affect the network of contacts while walking out the door the last time. Some employers have human resource departments to hold an exit interview with the leaving employee. Again it is advisable not to say something petty or negative about your current boss.

Your co-workers and your boss may try to make you feel guilty about leaving the job or deserting them. However, these things should not bother you. Instead, you should try to concentrate on making this transition as smooth and positive as possible.

Writing a Professional Resignation Letter
You should be ready to write a professional letter of resignation and submit it to the concerned persons and departments before you leave. Do not write the letter in haste. Have the resignation letter written professionally in advance, aside from your planned last day of work. There are different reasons that compel people to leave their job. However, you should abide by the etiquette and professionalism even when you write the letter.

Writing a professional letter of resignation means you need to write a polite and professional letter mentioning your intention of leaving the current job. There is no point in making enemies while resigning. So, do not write or state anything negative in the resignation letter. All you need to state in your resignation letter is that you are leaving your current job to pursue new opportunities. Do not talk ill of your co-workers or your boss in the letter, because your job history may follow you around. When you are making a transition and seek a new beginning, you need to give it a smooth start. Do not do anything which may haunt you in your career later. Also remember to submit your letter of resignation at least two or more weeks in advance, before your planned date of resignation.

Finally when you settle yourself into the new job, update your contact information with your former co-workers and former supervisors, so that you do not affect your professional network. It is important to keep all of them on your network, because you never know when you will need to search for jobs again.
