Vehicle/Product EngineerLocation: Winamac,IN Type: Full-Time Reports To: Associate Director of Vehicle Engineering Relocation Assistance: Available (some) General Purpose We are seeking a Vehicle Engineer to lead the design and development of new wheelchair-accessible vehicle conversions from concept through launch. This role is responsible for engineering all vehicle systems, setting development strategies, and ensuring alignment with cost, quality, and timing objectives. Key Responsibilities Engineer, design, and develop new vehicle conversions using CAD software (Inventor) Design complex systems including mechanisms, suspensions, structures, doors, and liftgates Plan design and validation activities aligned with APQP/Stage Gate processes Ensure all designs meet budgeted cost and quality targets Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Portfolio teams Recommend low-cost alternatives, standardization, and design improvements Build and engineer prototype vehicles Continuously optimize designs and processes to meet project timelines and specs Participate in and lead design reviews to ensure compliance with technical and functional requirements Conduct peer design reviews to preempt and resolve design challenges Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Mechanism Design expertise and integration with full tolerance analysis Solid understanding of vehicle engineering, integration, and system reliability Proficiency in: Structural design, sheet metal fabrication, welding processes Suspensions, closures (e.g., liftgates, doors) Fuel, exhaust, cooling, and braking systems Strong grasp of materials science and selection based on application Skilled in design and validation tools: FEA, DFA/M, DOE, D/PFMEA, DVP&R GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis Ability to manage multiple complex projects under tight deadlines Strong verbal and written communication skills Hands-on experience with prototype fabrication and welding (preferred) Software experience: Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault, MS Office, Outlook, Epicor (ERP) Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering Proven experience taking a complex product from concept through launch Demonstrated ability to lead projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams 3D product design experience - must be directly involved in design, not just oversight Nice to Have Familiarity with: DFMEA Root cause analysis tools (e.g., 8D) Automotive, specialty vehicle, or transportation industry experience
