Job Description:
The Automotive Body Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing daily shop operations, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality repairs, and excellent customer service. This role manages technicians and support staff, coordinates with insurance companies on estimates and supplemental claims, and ensures compliance with all required training, safety standards, and industry regulations. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with collision management experience and a focus on productivity, profitability, and customer satisfaction.Key ResponsibilitiesShop Operations & WorkflowControl and optimize shop flow to ensure timely vehicle repairs and on-time deliverySchedule work, assign jobs, and balance workload among techniciansMonitor repair progress and address bottlenecks or delaysEnsure repairs meet quality standards and OEM guidelinesInsurance & Claims ManagementWork directly with insurance companies on estimates and supplemental insurance claimsReview repair plans and supplements for accuracy and completenessNegotiate with insurance adjusters as needed to ensure proper repair coverageEnsure documentation and photos meet insurer requirementsTeam Leadership & TrainingSupervise, coach, and motivate technicians, estimators, and support staffEnsure employees stay current with required training and certificationsPromote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvementAssist with hiring, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions when neededSafety & ComplianceEnsure compliance with OSHA regulations, shop safety policies, and environmental standardsMaintain required safety measures, equipment, and personal protective gearConduct safety meetings and enforce safe work practicesEnsure compliance with manufacturer, insurer, and industry program requirementsCustomer Service & CommunicationServe as a point of contact for customers regarding repair status and concernsResolve customer complaints professionally and promptlyEnsure a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the repair processFinancial & Administrative DutiesMonitor labor efficiency, cycle time, and key performance indicators (KPIs)Control costs related to labor, materials, and sublet repairsAssist with budgeting, inventory control, and vendor relationshipsEnsure accurate paperwork, invoices, and repair documentationQualificationsProven experience in an automotive body shop or collision repair environmentPrior management or supervisory experience preferredStrong understanding of collision repair processes and insurance claimsKnowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirementsExcellent organizational, communication, and leadership skillsAbility to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
