The Planning, Performance and Quality Management Office (PPQM) provides an enterprise-level perspective on planning and performance and provides a focal point for Laboratory contractor assurance activities. Within PPQM, the Quality Management Office (QMO) works with line organizations on developing and delivering programs, activities, and services that integrate quality assurance, environmental, and safety management principles throughout the Laboratory. Deployed Quality Representatives work closely with their assigned organizations to provide quality assurance functions tailored to the organization and serve as a liaison back to the QMO. POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Quality Management Office (QMO) is seeking a motivated self-starter to join their team as a deployed Quality Representative. As an engineer, you will apply standard quality assurance and quality control practices and techniques in specific aspects of design, procurement, manufacture, test, and initial operation. In this role, you will work with colleagues to support the implementation of quality assurance and quality control methods on projects and processes. Activities include planning, performing, and documenting assessments of processes against requirements, supporting the implementation of corrective action plans, analyzing performance data, performing supplier reviews and selections and incoming inspections, managing calibration programs, and developing and reviewing procedures. This position will directly support the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS II) within the Energy and Photon Science Directorate. The mission of the NSLS II is to operate one of the most advanced synchrotron light sources in the world to enable scientists from academia and industry to tackle challenges in quantum materials, energy storage and conversion, condensed matter and materials physics, chemistry, life sciences and more by using imaging techniques with light ranging from infrared to x-rays. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform implementation assessments of NSLS-II programs including Quality Assurance, Conduct of Operations, Configuration Management, Cyber Security, LOTO, Accelerator Safety, etc. This includes developing assessment criteria, assessing implementation of requirements, documenting results, preparing reports, and performing follow-up. Perform independent verification of corrective action implementation resulting from internal and external assessments, causal analysis, critiques and surveillances. Participate in and potentially lead investigation and causal analysis teams. Review/approval of technical documents (e.g. drawings, engineering change requests, statements of work, specifications, procedures, purchase requisitions) to ensure appropriate quality requirements have been addressed. Perform Vendor Qualification and Verification activities including participation in vendor QA submittals, source selection boards, on-site inspections, factory and incoming inspections of materials. Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related scientific discipline. Knowledge in basic quality assurance and quality control methods. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required to interact with a multidisciplinary group of engineers, scientists and technical staff. Ability to work in a matrixed organization, both individually as well as part of a interdisciplinary team. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365. The ability to perform field surveillances within the NSLS II complex which requires the ability to walk distances more than ½ mile, ability to be in areas of magnetic fields in excess of 5 gauss. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Three (3) years of related quality assurance experience regarding basic quality assurance and quality control methods. Proficiency in the use of Visio. Knowledge of or training in specific quality standards or skills (e.g. ISO9001, Auditing). Knowledge of or experience in software quality assurance. Work in a research and/or science-based organization. Knowledge of particle accelerator operations. Core skills include organizational and time management, ability to gather information and resourcefulness in resolving problems. Ability to work independently, have the desire and ability to learn new systems, make informed decisions and regularly exercise a high degree of discretion and judgment. Additional Information: This is a fully onsite position located at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NY. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Brookhaven National Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $80600 - $110000 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
