Summary The Director of Respiratory Therapy provides leadership and management to ensure the program maintains successful accreditation and meets academic and clinical standards. The Director oversees curriculum, instruction, assessment, and recruitment, as well as the program's academic and clinical operations. Responsibilities include delivering engaging instruction; developing and evaluating curricula; conducting program, course, and student outcome assessments; and promoting student success through advising and mentorship. The Director also contributes to the College's mission by participating in institutional initiatives, professional development, and community partnerships that foster quality education and continuous improvement. Essential Duties or Responsibilities The essential duties and primary responsibilities below are intended to describe the general requirements of this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Other duties may be assigned. 1.Leadership * Create and sustain a supportive College culture that engages employees, values diversity, ensures equity, promotes inclusion, and fosters teamwork, accountability, open communication, and shared vision. * Lead the CoARC accreditation and approval process, ensuring compliance with all accreditation standards and reporting requirements. * Complete accreditation and certification requirements, including annual reports, self-studies, and preparation for site visits. * Build and maintain clinical partnerships to secure and coordinate placement sites for student internships and clinical experiences. * Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate full-time and adjunct respiratory therapy faculty. * Serve as the initial point of contact for student concerns or issues within the program. 2. Administration / Management * Develop course schedules in coordination with the Dean of Allied Health & Nursing. * Maintain effective communication with the Dean, faculty, students, and CoARC. * Convene regular faculty meetings to support curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation. * Redesign and evaluate curricula based on national competencies, accreditation standards, and emerging respiratory care practices. * Coordinate and host at least two program advisory board meetings annually, incorporating stakeholder feedback to improve curricula and outcomes. * Collaborate with business, industry, professional, and community organizations to remain current on trends in respiratory care and allied health education. * Maintain program documentation including syllabi, evaluations, grades, textbook lists, and student files. * Manage laboratory and simulation equipment, updating and monitoring inventory. * Represent the program at college events, recruitment activities, and external meetings. * Conduct assessments of courses, programs, and student learning outcomes; collect and analyze data on enrollment, completion, job placement, licensure pass rates, and student satisfaction. * Complete comprehensive program reviews and contribute to continuous improvement plans. * Serve on institutional committees as assigned. struction And Student Engagement * Teach courses in the Respiratory Therapy program as needed (classroom, lab, or clinical settings). * Provide proactive advising and mentorship through regular in-person or virtual meetings. * Use advising software and documentation tools to guide students and track academic progress. * Assist students in planning their academic pathway toward graduation and credentialing. * Promote professional values, clinical reasoning, and ethical practice in respiratory care. 4.Accountability * Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines, including CoARC, ICCB, HLC, and institutional requirements. * Align curricula with workforce demands and institutional career pathways. * Maintain accurate documentation and participate in shared governance processes for continuous improvement. 5.Fiscal * Develop and monitor the Respiratory Therapy program budget. * Track expenditures, submit requisitions, and process budget modifications as needed. * Order supplies and equipment aligned with program and student needs. Qualifications * Bachelor's degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy, Education, or a related field * Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential * Current, valid Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner license (or eligibility for IL licensure) * 4 years clinical experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) * 2 years teaching experiences (as faculty or a clinical preceptor). * Experience in program planning, implementation, personnel management, and budgeting Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated leadership ability. * Commitment to student-centered education and faculty development. * Proficiency with learning management systems and academic technology. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments. * Experience with CoARC accreditation processes, including self-studies and site visit coordination.
