Controls EngineerLocation: Tuscaloosa, ALJob Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire (FTE)Shift: 2nd Shift (7:00 PM - 4:00 AM)Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 annuallyNo OPT/CPT/F1/H1B visas pleaseNo 3rd parties or C2CJob SummaryThe Controls Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting control system software and hardware to reduce machine downtime and improve overall system efficiency. This role supports a Just-In-Time (JIT), complex assembly manufacturing environment and works closely with plant maintenance and cross-functional teams to meet production, quality, and continuous improvement goals.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, implement, and maintain PLC, HMI, and control system software and hardware improvements to enhance production efficiency and product qualityTroubleshoot, modify, and program PLCs to resolve equipment issues and minimize downtimeSupport and maintain multiple automated machinery systems in a high-volume manufacturing environmentCoordinate and manage work with outside contractors, vendors, and equipment suppliersCollaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure optimal performance of production linesMaintain accurate documentation for machine parameters, changes, drawings, diagrams, manuals, and preventive maintenance programsRequisition tools, equipment, and supplies as needed and ensure adequate spare parts inventory to minimize production interruptionsAssist with new equipment launches and engineering change initiativesEnsure compliance with ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 procedures and processesMaintain proper housekeeping and safety standards within assigned areasRequired QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field5-6 years of experience in a manufacturing or controls engineering environment (or equivalent combination of education and experience)Experience working closely with plant maintenance teamsStrong PLC programming and troubleshooting experience, including:Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogixAbility to read, understand, and modify ladder logicSiemens PLC experience is a plusHMI programming experience (PanelView or equivalent)Experience with industrial automation equipment, including:FANUC and/or ABB robotsVision systemsExperience with electric torque control systems (Atlas Copco, Stanley, or equivalent)Preferred / Bonus QualificationsAbility to supervise or lead plant maintenance personnel during absences of the Maintenance EngineerStrong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentSelf-motivated, detail-oriented, and team-focused mindset
