SUMMARY/ OBJECTIVEThe Metallurgist is a key factory staff member responsible for analyzing raw materials and finished products, overseeing and monitoring heat treatment and metal finishing processes, working closely with cross-functional teams to select proper alloys for specific applications, identifying metallurgical defects and implementing corrective actions to meet quality, safety, and performance standards.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESAnalyze the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of metals and alloysPerform metallurgical testing, including microstructural analysis and failure investigationsInvestigate and resolve metallurgical defects (cracking, porosity, distortion, corrosion, wear) and recommend course of actionRecommend material selections based on performance, cost, and application requirementsSupport quality control and continuous improvement initiativesCollaborate with engineering, production, and R&D teamsPrepare technical reports, documentation, and presentationsAll other tasks as assigned by manager.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Demonstrable track record over a minimum of 5 years of successfully working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.Strong knowledge of general manufacturing processes and techniques.Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metalsUnderstanding of metal processing and finishing applications (PVD, DLC, FNC, Anodizing, Black Oxide, etc.)Knowledge of heat treatment processes, equipment and material testing techniquesFamiliarity with Metal Injection Molding and Powder MetallurgyAbility to prepare samples for and perform microstructural analysesProficiency in metallurgical analysis tools and laboratory equipmentProficiency with SEM and other advanced material analysisExperience with failure analysis and root cause investigationsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and in teamsPractical, hands-on problem-solving mindsetStrong analytical and troubleshooting abilitiesAbility to work under pressure and tight deadlines in a high paced manufacturing environment.Cross-functional team playerProficient with Microsoft officeExcellent verbal and written communication skills.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCERequired: BS or higher degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related fieldTRAVEL REQUIREMENTS This position will require minimum travel.OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, overtime before and after shifts and on weekends.
