Position SummaryIt is the responsibility of the Orthopaedic Technician Supervisor to provide leadership, motivation and guidance to the Orthopaedic Technicians in order to facilitate quality patient care and satisfaction. The Ortho Tech Supervisor will be accountable for day to day operations at their designated facility to ensure optimal performance and retention of the team members at that facility. Key areas include: handling physician requests related to casting, DME/Bracing, and any appropriate other special procedures; inventory management in their location; cast room maintenance and cleanliness; ongoing staff evaluation; and overall staff morale.Key ResponsibilitiesSupervisorPromote excellent customer service within the assigned location.Provides ortho techs with general supervision and guidance at their assigned facility.Responsible for DME and casting stock for their assigned location to ensure adequate PAR levels are being maintained.Oversees ordering and receiving of all casting and DME supplies.Trains and enforces policies and procedures for the casting/DME department.Reports on the progress of employees under guidance and during training and evaluation periods.Drives individual accountability of employees through leading by example.Handles day to day minor issues, problems and any subsequent needed disciplinary actions.Monitors subordinate technicians hours to eliminate overtime.Promotes a sense of pride in FOI and positive interpersonal relations among all team members.Suggests improvements and participates in organized efforts to improve service levels.Monitors usage and waste of supplies to help control cost.Assesses staff on basis of their performance and offer feedback and support.Assists Senior Supervisor with scheduling ortho techs at all clinic sites.Coordinates alternate assignments for ortho-techs for any periods of downtime.Assists with training of all new ortho techs in all casting and DME responsibilities as needed.Act as a liaison between Orthotechs and physicians, reporting critical information to the Senior Supervisor and DME Manager.Promotes high levels of teamwork and morale.Cross-trains clinical staff in the application of DME as needed.Organizes department educational in-services to promote continuing education.Oversees daily ordering and receiving of all casting and DME supplies.Ensures all cast saws receive regular maintenance as needed.Attends regular staff meetings with the DME Manager and Director of Therapy.Promote interdepartmental collaboration.Ensures plaster traps are cleaned every six months or as needed.Assists DME Manager with employee interviews and annual performance evaluations.Serve as a member of the Emergency Medical Response Team.Serves as a member of the Violence Response Team.All other duties as assigned.OrthotechProvide excellent customer service.Applies and removes casts and DME as ordered by the physician and carried by the DME department.Provides patient with information and education on the proper use and care of casts and bracesAnswers patient calls regarding problems with casts or braces.Provides patient with information and education on the proper use and care of casts and bracesMaintains the cast room in a clean and sanitary manner by insuring all patient treatment surfaces, exam tables, foot stands, etc. are wiped down with antimicrobial solution after each patient.Assists in the ordering, organizing and maintenance of PAR levels of castroom and associated medical supplies.Responsible for receiving DME and supply orders, ensuring accuracy of packing slip Information, and forwarding all packing slips to the DME/Casting Manager.Remains available to all physician clinics in their assigned location via radio, to take casting/DME calls for assistance. This applies to Surgery Center as well when at Telecom.Assists physician with in-office special proceduresAssists with Medical Assistant duties in clinics when available with the following;Remove staples, sutures, and pins.Apply or remove dressings.Debrides calluses as indicated by physician.Dictates on all cast clinic patients.Assists X-ray and clinical staff lifting patients when available.Attends periodic department in-service and staff meetings.Completes monthly statistics sheet and submits to DME Manager by the 6th of the following month.Removes all halos and external traction devices under physician supervision.Assure compliance with all company plans, policies and procedures set forth by the Florida Orthopaedic InstituteAll other duties as assignedAbout YouHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum of 5 years of experience in a related healthcare or customer service fieldExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to interact with patients in a calm, pleasant, and professional mannerCommitment to delivering exceptional service to internal and external customersAbility to work independently with guidance from the DME ManagerStrong problem-solving skills and sound judgmentCapable of managing multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environmentProfessional, courteous, and tactful demeanorEnjoys working collaboratively as part of a teamPreferred QualificationsAssociate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Arts (A.A.) degreeExperience using Athena EMR Equal Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
