Required Qualification: (as evidenced by an attached resume)• Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in optical imaging, biomedical engineering, microbiology, multi-omics, or a closely related field.• Three (3) years of research experience in optical imaging, biomedical engineering, microbiology, or multi-omics to to include at least one year of research experience following attainment of a Doctoral degree or foreign equivalent.• Basic knowledge and some research experience in optical imaging, microbiology or antimicrobial agents.Preferred Qualification:• PhD related to optical imaging or microbiology.• Experience with optical instrumentation or device.• Experience with microbiology wet lab techniques.• Experience with animal models of bacterial/fungal wound infections.• Experience mentoring trainees or managing projects.Job Description:We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join the Dong Microbiomics Imaging Lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Stony Brook University. The successful candidate will have expertise in optical instrument/device development. The candidate is also expected to have basic knowledge and some research experience in microbiology. The candidate will contribute to the experimental design, execution, data analysis, and collaborative translational research efforts. The laboratory will offer the candidate opportunities for grant application and continued professional development.Specific Duties:• Evaluate feasibility, antimicrobial efficacy, safety of optical devices from in vitro cell culture, ex vivo tissues, to in vivo animal models of bacterial/fungal infections• Write manuscripts for journal publications; present results in scientific conferences and seminars; contribute to proposal writing and grant applications• Responsible for the overall management of the lab, may supervise postdoctoral associate and research support positions. Will provide training on specific specialized skills and research methods, and is responsible for the operation of the lab.• Coordinate activities interrelated with research project; maintain all laboratory records consistent with the University policy• Other duties as assigned.Special Notes:The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation.
