Job Description:
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until June 1st, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be April 7th, with subsequent cut-off dates every 5 days. Also an occasional Saturday clinic or a weekday extended hour clinic; however, subject to change, depending on the needs of the service/medical center. Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting As the Ophthalmologist you will manage eye conditions including cataract, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Treatments include, but are not limited to: cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy laser therapy, glaucoma treatment, and macular degeneration injections. Administrative duties are general oversight of the operations of the Ophthalmology Clinic including but not limited to provide providing efficient patient management, supervision of Ophthalmology residents and other administrative activity. Physician is expected to maintain Joint Commission readiness. Clinical Duties: * Provide direct patient care to include, but are not limited to: history and physicals, medication management, evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatment planning, surgery, and clinical reminder completion as applicable. Administrative Duties: * Document all medical information in an electronic medical record. * Participate in Process Improvement/Quality Assurance projects and participate in bi-annual Medical Staff activity including committee participation. * General oversight of the operations of the Ophthalmology Clinic including but not limited to provide providing efficient patient management * Supervision of Ophthalmology residents * Perform medication reconciliation. Education Duties: * Instructing and educating Ophthalmology residents.
