Grossing technician:Histotechnicians/Grossing technicians are an essential part of the team of laboratory health care professionals. They perform testing and prepare body fluids and tissues that are critical to the diagnostic process in determining health and disease.Shift: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PMResponsibilities Include:Receives specimens in the grossing laboratoryEnters patient information into the laboratory information system, verifying identificationLabels cassettes with accession/laboratory numbersPerforms quality control and quality assurance procedures, such as preventive maintenance and temperature checksMaintains a clean and well-organized work areaPerforms various clerical dutiesAlways maintains strict confidentiality and protects patient informationEnsures specimen integrity upon receipt and throughout the entire macroscopic examination processPerforms routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing, according to delineation of privileges, policies, and proceduresSets up necessary equipment, supplies, and specimens for macroscopic examinationDescribes gross anatomic features of biopsies or routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens without selective samplingLoads prepared cassettes into a tissue processor and starts the processorMaintains cleanliness of the anatomic pathology suiteOperates and cleans laboratory equipment, instruments, and workstationsMaintains wet tissue storageStores, rotates, and disposes of all wet tissues in accordance with departmental proceduresDisinfects and maintains specimen storage cabinetsProperly label, store, handle, and dispose of reagents and hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations; this may include recycling or reprocessing of reagents used in the department including neutralizing formalin before disposalMaintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance and quality controls performedAdhere to CAP, CLIA, state regulations, HIPAA, safety, and OSHA regulationsQualificationsBachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution or equivalent required.Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Technician, Histotechnician, Pathologists Assistant or equivalent required.Minimum of 2 - 5 years' work experience preferred.Microtomy experience a plus.ASCP certification preferred.About Us:Acupath Laboratories is a nationwide provider of specialized anatomic pathology services, focusing on areas like urology, gastroenterology, and hematology/oncology.
