Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARYProvide care to patients by assisting clinical staff in all patient rooming activities as directed by providers and supervised as duties require. Tasks include chart preparation, rooming patients, performing procedures, and point of care testing as well as performing a variety of administrative duties as assigned. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) will actively participate as a member of the healthcare team, in a single practice or specialty, to engage patients, families, and caregivers in the coordination of patient care. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation:High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a medical assistant program or other clinical training program. Training as an emergency medical technician or paramedic preferredExperience:Healthcare experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:Knowledge of medical practice and patient care, medical equipment and instruments and procedures. Knowledge of physician office procedures, medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions. Ability to take vital signs and record and maintain test results. Ability to record data accurately using a computer. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. License/Certification/Registration:Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDReceives direct supervision from the Practice Manager.SUPERVISION GIVENNoneResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSClinical Duties as assignedGreet patients and obtain necessary patient information/documentationPrepare patients for examination and/or treatment and documentRecord patient historiesObtain vital signsMeasure and record accurate height and weight Specimen preparation and collectionPerform point of care testingRecord patient reported medications in the electronic health recordCompletion of all required Quality workflows as part of the rooming processProvide instructions for testing procedures to patientsAdminister injections/vaccinations Administer non-controlled prescribed injections and medications, observe reactions and document in the patient's fileClean, disinfect and stock examination rooms with required instruments and suppliesPrepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instrumentsPrepare, sterilize and maintain supplies and equipment for patient treatmentsParticipate as a member of the clinical question team by recording and addressing patient or other phone calls, as appropriate, for the providersAdministrative DutiesObtain referrals and authorizations and schedule tests, procedures and appointments as directed.Perform front desk/administrative duties including but not limited to patient registration, scheduling of appointments, collecting appropriate co-payments, responsible for maintaining the cash drawer and any other duties as required for patient check in/check out.
