This position may also entail serving as an interim PIC for pharmacies to be opened in the near future for application purposes. As an integral part of the pharmacy team, the PRN Staff Pharmacist practices pharmacy consistent with company expectations and applicable state and federal laws and regulations in a fast-paced environment focused on dispensing accuracy and patient care. The Staff Pharmacist performs duties in both the adjudication and production work environments while providing direct supervision of Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacy Technicians performing pharmacy related duties. In adjudication, the Staff Pharmacist is charged with interpretation of prescription orders, peer-to-peer, patient, and other communications to clarify and verify information and provide counseling. In production, the Staff Pharmacist reviews the fulfillment of prescription orders, works with robotics and automation, completes prescription transfers, and assists with drug procurement through various wholesalers. IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR TITLE: Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience in pharmacy or healthcare setting • Proficient in use of Windows-based computer programs and Microsoft Office programs • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a professional, organized, and friendly manner • Excellent communication skills • Proving basic quantitative abilities • Possess excellent written and verbal skills and ability to communicate effectively across all levels of audience including the ability to translate clinical information into a manner appropriate for clinical and non-clinical audiences. • Detail-oriented, accurately follow established procedures for completing work, and ensure high-quality results to include initiating action to correct quality problems. • Effectively manage one's time, stay focused, ensure performance objectives and deadlines are met. • Effectively and proactively meet customers' needs, excellent interpersonal relationship skills, and take responsibility for customer satisfaction. • Plan, organize, and prioritize work activities to meet business needs. • Physical Demands including: o Exposure to a normal office environment. o Lift, carry, and /or push/pull various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while using proper technique. o Lift up to 35 pounds from floor to chest level and lift and carry up to 35 pounds at waist height a reasonable distance. o Stand up a majority of workday (8-10 hours) or for long periods of time depending on the needs of the pharmacy operation. o Operate all equipment necessary to do the job. RESPONSIBILITIES: Customer Experience • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience. • Models and shares customer service best practices with all pharmacy team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy, etc.) and Goshen Medical Center's service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied, etc.). • Develops strong relationships with most valuable customers by anticipating customer needs and proactively offering services. Supports efforts on enhancing customer experience by increasing focus on healthcare services (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, and perform retail, clinical, or wellness services such as immunizations, flu shots, and diabetes awareness) thereby promoting the shift of the pharmacy role from transactional to interpersonal. • Participates and assists necessary events as requested by Corporate Staff, Director of Pharmacy Program, Pharmacy Manager, or PIC. Operations • Counsels patients and answers their questions regarding usage of medicine, side effects, interactions, contraindications, patient information privacy, generics, less expensive medicines, over-the-counter products, and refers to medical provider as needed to ensure medication is taken correctly, health needs addressed, and satisfaction with service. • Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Reviews, interprets, and accurately dispenses prescribed medications when necessitated by workload. • Ensures the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations, company policies and standards. Assists PIC with establishing procedures that promotes the efficient workflow of the pharmacy including assigning roles, coordinating activities, and soliciting employee suggestions. Responsible for the opening and closing of the pharmacy and shift change duties. • Ensures the use of all elements of the state and federal controlled substance laws when filling prescriptions. • Maintains current knowledge of information technology associated with pharmacy systems to provide support to customers as well as pharmacy staff. Proposes and implements enhancements to pharmacy systems to further promote productivity as needed. • Ensures the accurate processing of insurance claims to resolve customer issues and prevent payment rejections. Follows-up with insurance companies as well as medical providers and participates in third party audit. • Follows-up with medical providers' in-house and in other offices to clarify prescribed medications, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies to suggest alternative medications, and answer medical provider questions. • Performs 340B, retail, clinical, and wellness services such as immunizations, flu shots, diabetes awareness and other preventive healthcare services. • Assists and supports the PIC and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing performance data including pharmacy financials, customer service, and implementation of procedures for pharmacy asset protection and inventory management. • Develops and maintains good relationships with in-house staff and other members of the Goshen Medical Center Offices along with members of the local medical community including but not limited to physicians, nurses, and other health care providers. Participates in community outreach activities to promote the pharmacy business and further enhance growth opportunities as needed and directed. • Meets or exceed daily workflow expectations. • Provides on-call counseling services for patients utilizing the mail-order option based on business needs during business hours. • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required. • Packages prescriptions for shipping and creates shipping label(s) via FedEx in order for orders to be sent to patients • Prepares for next day's duties • Maintains cleanliness and organization of pharmacy area People & Performance Management • Assists the PIC and Pharmacy Manager with staff hiring and training. Reinforces the direction of PIC and Pharmacy Manager in staff performance by coaching, and providing constructive feedback, monitoring customer service, and fostering employee development. • Promotes teamwork and motivates team members by establishing expectations, monitors and recognizes progress, and fosters a shared vision. Training & Personal Development • Obtains necessary on-the-job training and other education to help understand HRSA and 340B Pharmacy Program • Maintains current knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare by reading pharmacy related journals, company publications, and communications. Maintains awareness of developments in 340B, retail and management and pursues best practices that would enhance performance. • Obtains necessary certifications, education credits and training as required by Goshen Medical Center. • Seeks professional development by monitoring one's performance, solicits for constructive feedback, and leverages PIC and Pharmacy Manager and Director of Pharmacy Program as mentors and coaches. Communications • Supports the PIC, Pharmacy Manager and Director of Pharmacy Program by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to pharmacy staff
