Capitol Security officers get a first hand view of how the three branches of Minnesota Government work: the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. Minimum Qualifications Six (6) months of experience as a Security Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, or Peace Officer; OR One (1) year of customer service-related experience in a fast-paced environment. AND High School Diploma/GED and a valid Driver's License. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with the public and stakeholders. Ability to follow oral and written directions, speak, read, and understand the English language sufficiently to read and apply security procedures, write reports, and interact with customers. Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities. Preferred Qualifications Formal first aid/CPR training (Red Cross or equivalent) One (1) year of experience as a security officer, crime prevention officer, correctional officer, or peace officer Proficient with Microsoft Word and Outlook computer applications Working knowledge of the Capitol complex and associated grounds Bilingual Physical Requirements Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as files boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and moving and transporting light objects frequently. Even though the weights being moved and transported may be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require positioning self to move a significant degree or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extend periods. Prolonged standing, walking long distances and the ability to run and/or climb stairs and ladders.
