We're hiring four (4) Program Assistants to fill leadership roles in the following areas: Day Camp/Community Outreach Programs, Nature Camps, and a Behavior Support staff person for the division. Essential Position Functions Assist in the coordination, planning, and day-to-day implementation of summer camps or events and community outreach programs. Work with and provide service to individuals from diverse backgrounds (age, ethnicity, socio-economic status, etc.). Provide exceptional customer service, including communication both verbally and in writing. Serve as on-site lead staff member for programs and events as assigned. Communicate with supervisory staff to keep them informed of any concerns or issues related to staff, participants, or community individuals. Request materials and supplies as needed. Complete weekly reports as requested by Supervisor. Lead staff in set-up, take-down, and basic cleaning of program area. Administer basic first aid as needed - training provided! Other duties as assigned. Minimum QualificationsJob seekers should be 18 years of age or older. Valid driver's license. College coursework towards or a degree in Parks and Recreation or related field. Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers and program implementation. Things that may help you be successful in this rolePrevious experience with a Parks and Recreation agency or related field/setting. CPR and First Aid Certifications Two (2) years of college coursework in recreation, education, event planning, or closely related field -OR- Two (2) years of work experience in recreation-oriented programs, event planning, education or closely related setting. Ability to work independently and in a team setting. Knowledge of Eagan Parks & Recreation Department and its programs. Supervision The Program Assistant will be supervised by the Recreation Supervisor and be provided work direction from the Recreation Programmer(s). Program Assistant will be responsible for work direction of other seasonal staff, leaders in training teen volunteers, and program participants. Physical Requirements While performing duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk and hear. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, run, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distant vision, color vision and peripheral vision. Working Conditions Working conditions may include daytime, evening, weekend and holiday hours both indoors and outdoors. At Camp Rahn, Dakota Woodlands, Series All Play, Leaders in Training and occasional events, you'll enjoy interacting with the diverse Eagan community. This staff will plan, coordinate, and implement a variety of recreation activities throughout the summer. This team will also work onsite and lead the team at Camp Rahn, a full day camp for ages 7-11, Monday- Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. In addition, the staff will coordinate set up, take down, and use of facility, equipment, and materials with a team of 4 staff. Shift times will vary to cover program times listed below. Schedule will vary weekly, approximately 36-40 hours a week. Camp Rahn: Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm | Dakota Woodlands: Mondays 5-8pm | Series All Play: Tuesdays 4-8pm | Leaders in Training: Monday-Friday mornings. Nature Camp: 1 Lead staff will be hired to work Nature Camps, Truck and Muck Camp, and Safety Camp to plan, coordinate, and implement a variety of recreation camp activities throughout the summer with a team of 4 staff. In addition, the lead staff will work onsite to coordinate set up, take down, and use of facility, equipment, and materials. Schedule will vary weekly, approximately 36-40 hours a week. Camp Prep and planning: June 15-17 | Nature Camp: June 22-25 | Nature Camp: June 29-July 2 | Camp Prep: July 6-9 | Safety Camp: July 10 | Truck and Muck Camp: July 13-16 | Nature Camp: July 27-30 | Camp Wrap Up August 3-5. Behavior Support: 1 Lead behavior support person will work throughout the recreation division to provide hands on help and solutions for all summer camps. This person will reach out to families before each week of camp to set up plans for success and help staff onsite to work with participants. The behavior support person will divide their time across approximately 8 programs, camps and sites.
