Our mission has always been to provide our customers with the highest quality waste, recycling and environmental services, while keeping focus on employees, customer and environmental safety.  What makes our company culture unique is we have mastered the ability to balance the standards of a large corporate company while maintaining our small business family style culture.  Essential Job Summary:: The Manager of Short Haul Operations manages the assigned scope of responsibility within the Short Haul business unit. May be assigned single or multiple depots, oversight of equipment/vehicles, expense management, operations staff to maintain and ensure safe performance and productivity metrics and processes. Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.: Manages the day-to-day operations of the Short Haul business unit and provides daily support to route supervisors, dispatch, labor planning, productivity tracking, and safety metrics.Supervise, train, and evaluate site personnel, including drivers, operations supervisors and dispatchers.Develop and implement operational procedures to maximize efficiency, minimize costs, and increase productivity.Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, DOT, and other standards and regulations.Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent discipline and retraining if necessary.Oversees personnel needs of the business unit including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions adhering to CBA where applicable.Communicates and collaborates effectively with other depot managers and maintenance managers to ensure operational goals are met.Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.Responsible for conducting monthly safety meetings/ training sessions.Schedule regular defensive driving training sessions with safety team.Ensures quarterly random drug screens are performed.Performs fleet inspections (Fleet Walk). Requirements and Qualifications:: 7 – 10 years of work experience (in addition to education requirement) in transportation, logistics, or solid waste operations in which coaching, routing assessments and leading employeesAssociate’s degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree, high school diploma or GED (accredited) and 5 years of relevant work experience3 + years of supervisory experienceEffectively handle employee grievances and conduct investigationsPrior experience in environmental services a plusExperience with fleet management and heavy equipment operations.Experience overseeing business plans, developing and tracking budgetsDemonstrated ability to use a data-driven approach to decision makingLeadership capabilities working across a matrix organizationExperience implementing safety (OSHA) programs and equipment specificationsProven ability to work efficiently with minimal direct supervisionDemonstrated ability to motivate others to achieve resultsProven experience meeting business commitments, driving change and implementing process improvementsExcellent interpersonal and customer service skillsStrong organizational skills and attention to detailTime management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlinesAnalytical and critical thinking skillsProficient with Microsoft Office suite or related softwareMust be able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.Proven experience in managing labor relations in a unionized environmentExcellent computer skills with the ability to handle multiple programs and systems.Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally via e-mail, telephone and 2-way devicesMust have desire and ability to learn the company’s software applicationsWillingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and occasional holidays Additional Information: This job description is intended to be an accurate representation of the general functions of the job, rather than exhaustive list of duties, responsibilities, or experience. Salary Range Minimum: USD $130,000.00/Yr. Salary Range Maximum: USD $165,000.00/Yr.
