Chief Engineer - Data Center Operations

As the Chief Engineer for Data Center Operations, you'll oversee the critical infrastructure necessary for AWS's ongoing success. You will be responsible for the optimal performance of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems in the data center. This includes performing preventative maintenance, managing emergency responses, and serving as a key technical advisor for engineering operations personnel and vendors. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) team. Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare comprehensive reports on facility operations and maintenance. Oversee on-site management of shift technicians, senior shift technicians, and third-party vendors. Manage routine and emergency services for essential systems, including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, and cooling equipment. Handle data center capacity planning and reporting. Assist with the design and development of new facilities. Collaborate with IT managers and business leaders to align project priorities and enhance operational safety and efficiency. Ensure high-quality service meets all customer needs. Oversee asset and inventory management. Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls, serving as a secondary escalation point for Data Center facility-related issues. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Experience managing vendors. Experience in a data center or similar critical environment. Proven experience in data center engineering or operations. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in construction or project management.
