About the Job Quarry Manager / Quarry OperatorPosition Summary: We are seeking an experienced Quarry Manager / Quarry Operator to oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of an active aggregate quarry. This position is responsible for daily production, equipment management, personnel supervision, regulatory compliance, safety leadership, and coordination with sales, maintenance, and trucking operations. The ideal candidate is hands-on, safety-driven, and experienced in quarry or mining operations, with the ability to manage people, production, and compliance simultaneously. Primary Responsibilities:Operations & Production Management:Plan, schedule, and oversee daily quarry operations including crushing, screening, stockpiling, and load-out. Manage production targets for aggregates (base, sand, rock, specialty materials). Optimize plant performance to maximize uptime, throughput, and material quality. Monitor product gradations and coordinate with QC/testing as required. Coordinate haul truck traffic and load-out operations. Maintain accurate daily production and inventory records. Safety & Compliance Leadership:Enforce all MSHA, OSHA (where applicable), and company safety policies. Conduct daily workplace examinations and hazard assessments. Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident investigations. Ensure all employees and contractors are properly trained and certified. Maintain MSHA records, training logs, and inspection readiness. Stop work immediately for unsafe conditions or violations. Personnel & Supervision:Supervise quarry operators, plant operators, laborers, and support staff. Train, mentor, and evaluate employees. Enforce company policies and performance standards. Coordinate staffing levels and schedules to meet production needs. Participate in hiring, onboarding, and disciplinary actions. Equipment & Maintenance Oversight:Oversee operation and basic maintenance of: Crushers, screens, conveyors Loaders, excavators, haul trucks. Support equipment. Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules. Identify mechanical issues and coordinate repairs. Ensure equipment inspections are completed and documented. Environmental & Permitting Compliance:Ensure compliance with: Mine permits. Reclamation plans. Dust control plans. Stormwater and erosion control requirements. Coordinate with environmental consultants and regulators. Maintain compliance documentation and inspection readiness. Implement dust suppression, water management, and housekeeping practices. Administrative & Reporting Duties:Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports: Production. Equipment utilization. Safety incidents. Staffing. Track operating costs and assist with budgeting. Communicate operational status to ownership and upper management. Coordinate with sales on material availability and scheduling. Required Qualifications:5+ years experience in quarry, aggregate, or mining operations. 2+ years in a supervisory or management role. Strong working knowledge of: Crushing and screening systems. Aggregate production. Heavy equipment operation. MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 experience (current or prior). Strong leadership and decision-making skills. Ability to read and interpret production plans, gradations, and equipment manuals. Computer skills (production tracking, email, basic spreadsheets). Preferred Qualifications:MSHA Part 48 certification. Experience with environmental compliance and inspections. Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting experience. Experience operating loaders, excavators, dozers. Physical & Work Environment Requirements:Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to climb structures, walk uneven terrain, and work around heavy equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, or emergency call-outs as needed.
