If you want to learn more about Concordia University, Nebraska, please visit Position Purpose: The Department of Natural Sciences is seeking a full-time faculty position to begin service for the 2026/27 academic year. The primary responsibility of this position is to lead a dedicated academic community of pre-health students. This position plays a key role in strengthening future generations of pre-health students at Concordia, enabling them to find a community of others who have been granted the gift of being able to understand the science of God's world and who share a desire, through health-related vocations, to be Christ's hands and feet to a world in need. The Director will interact extensively with both current and prospective Concordia students and will engage with educators, guidance counselors, and leaders of both Concordia University and local health providers. At maturity, the program will serve a community of approximately forty pre-health students, and through them will be a blessing to thousands. Must be 19 years of age or older to apply. Responsibilities: * Recruit an annual cohort of Micah Scholars (ideally 15-16 senior, high school students) with a mix of health-related vocational goals. * Work directly with Admissions, the Director of Strategic Financial Aid Initiatives, and campus leadership to identify high school students with a heart for service, a head for science, and a desire to be a part of a specific academic community of likeminded students called to various health vocations. * Engage high school students and develop ongoing relationships to create and uphold an effective team of scholars and aid in overall university retention efforts. * Organize experiences outside of the classroom to help program participants reach their highest potential in the pre-health sciences and guide them as they engage in both volunteer activities and health-related employment. Coordinate appropriate field trips and lectures, book clubs, study halls, and other activities to help Micah Scholars exercise the gifts God has given them in preparation for graduate and professional school. * Organize team development and bonding activities for Micah Scholars to enhance relationships within the community. * As a champion both on and off campus for Micah Scholars and pre-health vocations, collaborate with Concordia's Department of Natural Sciences and Concordia's Department of Health and Human Performance, to help provide an excellent on-campus experience for pre-health students. * In collaboration with the Advancement team, maintain relationships with local healthcare providers, assisting them in their respective missions by matching their needs with Concordia pre-health students through employment, internships, shadowing, and volunteer experiences. * Work with the Director of the Campus Wellness Center, local healthcare providers, and community partners to coordinate volunteer and shadowing experiences, internships, and health-related employment for Micah Scholars. * Advise Micah Scholars in their preparation for graduate and professional school, documenting both student success and potential challenges faced as they apply. * Serve as the Faculty Advisor for first-year Micah Scholars and as a resource for other campus pre-health students who are preparing for health-related vocations who are not part of the Micah Scholars Program. * Maintain communication with area and partner high schools - specifically guidance counsellors and science teachers - and with health-related graduate and professional schools. * Demonstrate a willingness to enthusiastically embrace the mission and vision of Concordia University, Nebraska. * Other faculty/instruction duties as assigned. Qualifications: * Ph.D. or terminal degree in related field preferred. Candidates who have earned a master's and who agree to pursue a terminal degree will be considered. * Degree related to Natural or Health Sciences (or closely related field). Experience: * Appropriate successful experience in the workplace or in a classroom that will lead to successful university-level teaching and mentoring in an acceptable subset of the following areas: * Evidence within a health-related field preferred, including relationship building within the healthcare communities. * Desire to develop professional relationships with students in which the program director is seen as an instructor, mentor, and advisor. * Relevant experiences within the areas of recruitment, community building, and leadership. * High degree of professionalism with the ability to positively represent the University. Proficiencies: * Proficient in the use of technology, software applications including Blackboard, Banner, and related applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing. * Proficiency in developing and managing social media content to support program promotion and community engagement. * Excellent presentation and strong communication skills (both written and oral). * Ability to juggle multiple tasks on sometimes short deadlines. * Self-sufficiency and an inherent desire to achieve goals. * Passion and skill for leading committed young individuals in experiential educational endeavors. * Commitment to setting and achieving annual personal performance goals. * Commitment to guiding students in setting and achieving personal and program goals. * Ability to teach students professional and workplace skills.
