Lets build together!About the RoleAs a Firmware Engineer, you will work as part of a high-performance engineering team to design, develop, and test high-reliability embedded firmware for military and industrial power electronics products. You will collaborate closely with power electronics engineers, hardware designers, and systems engineers to ensure firmware meets strict military specifications and customer requirements.This role blends embedded software development with hands-on hardware interaction, supporting products from concept through production and qualification testing.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for microprocessor-controlled power electronics productsDevelop firmware using C/C++ on Texas Instruments C2000 microcontrollers or similar TI devicesUtilize Code Composer Studio, Eclipse IDE, or similar development environmentsImplement and maintain real-time operating systems (RTOS) where requiredDesign and implement J1939 CAN communication buses on embedded systemsDevelop PC-based GUIs for CAN communication testing and diagnosticsUtilize CAN tools such as PCAN-Basic, PCAN-Explorer, VECTOR tools, and GUI development tools like Microsoft Visual StudioSupport FPGA development using Microchip/Microsemi/Actel Libero, including VHDL programming (preferred)Design and program user interfaces using Red Lion Crimson 3.1 HMI IDE (preferred)Use oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and other lab equipment to troubleshoot firmware-hardware interactionsInterpret and work from hardware schematics and electrical designsPerform firmware and hardware debugging to identify root causes and implement corrective actionsSupport microcontroller and FPGA circuit card design efforts (preferred)Work from customer specifications to define proper firmware behavior and system operationCollaborate cross-functionally with power electronics engineers to ensure system-level performanceParticipate in design reviews, verification testing, and customer technical discussionsSupport products through qualification testing, production, and sustainment phasesPromote and maintain a safe, high-quality engineering environmentRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical/military experience5+ years of professional experience developing embedded firmware in C/C++ for real-time or microcontroller-based systemsMust be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearanceAble to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks (standing, kneeling, crawling, etc.)Ability to travel up to 10% annuallyPreferred QualificationsExperience with RTOS-based embedded systemsExperience implementing J1939 CAN protocolsFPGA experience using Libero and VHDLExperience developing PC-based test or diagnostic toolsBackground working with military requirements or military prime contractorsExperience interfacing firmware with power electronics systemsFamiliarity with manufacturing or production environmentsStrong analytical, documentation, and communication skillsDetail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and safetyPerks at EspeyPay Rate: $100 -$130K AnnuallyFour-day work weekComprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insuranceEmployee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) & 401(k)Health Savings & Flexible Spending AccountsTuition reimbursementDirect, hands-on involvement in products supporting the U.S. militaryEspey is an Equal Opportunity Employer. xijylhu All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability.
