Why does the job exist?This position is responsible for providing members with information regarding the New Mexico Educational Retirement Boards (NMERB) retirement process, eligibility requirements, membership statements, refund information, monthly benefit amounts, auditing and preparing retirement applications, tax withholding information, direct deposit information and ERB website login issues. How does it get done?This position is the first point of contact and primarily responsible for answering incoming calls, which includes effective and efficient telephone customer service to eliminate calls transferred. This position will provide a high level of service to members of the NMERB by assisting them over the phone, in-person, and through email. This position will provide information and referral services to members, administrative units and the general public. In addition, this position will audit, review and enter member and retirement documents into NMBER's Browser system. Who are the customers?NMERB Members. Ideal CandidateHas experience:- Providing retirement counseling with regard to the Educational Retirement Act or Public Employees' Retirement Act- Adhering to strict deadlines in a high-volume office environment- Working in a call center setting - Dealing with difficult people and situations- Interpretation of the Educational Retirement Act or Public Employees' Retirement Act Minimum QualificationHigh School Diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of direct experience in bookkeeping, retirement processing, benefits administration, and/or auditing. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience. Employment RequirementsPre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Working ConditionsWork is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer and telephone usage. This position also requires the employee to use a copy machine, printer, fax machine and 10 key calculator.
