Job Summary We are seeking a Job Captain to support and manage architectural projects through all phases of design and documentation. This role is responsible for coordinating consultant work, producing high-quality construction documents, and supporting the Project Manager in maintaining schedules, budgets, and work plans. The Job Captain works collaboratively within project teams and may independently manage smaller projects while contributing to larger, more complex efforts. The ideal candidate is technically strong, highly organized, and comfortable balancing production responsibilities with coordination and team leadership. The position is located in our San Diego, California office. The position requires 3 days in the office and the ability to work from home Mondays and Fridays. Responsibilities * Coordinate project documentation with internal team members and external consultants * Prepare and organize complete drawing sets for SD, DD, and CD phases * Develop complex plans, elevations, sections, and details under supervision * Integrate design intent into technical documentation through all project phases * Coordinate with governing agencies and utility companies to support plan check approvals * Assist with material and system selection, construction detailing, and specifications * Participate in cost estimating and value coordination efforts * Support construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, RFIs, and change documentation * Write meeting minutes, instruction bulletins, change orders, and professional correspondence * Assist with proposals, marketing materials, and interview efforts * Manage small projects including schedules, staffing, budgets, and billing coordination * Track hours for assigned tasks and perform work within established budget parameters * Support and help direct assigned staff; may supervise 12 team members on projects * Communicate project status clearly and consistently with the Project Manager * Participate in office design charrettes and professional activities Requirements * Professional degree in Architecture or equivalent demonstrated proficiency * Minimum 5 years of experience in architectural production and document coordination across all phases * Advanced proficiency in Revit on an enterprise platform, including file setup, modeling, coordination, and troubleshooting * Proficiency in Rhino, Enscape, and CAD-based documentation tools * Strong understanding of construction documents, specifications, and building systems * Demonstrated knowledge of applicable building codes and ability to perform independent code analysis * Ability to coordinate effectively with consultants, agencies, and internal teams * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Demonstrated judgment, decision-making skills, and willingness to take responsibility * Familiarity with and adherence to firm procedures, standards, and documentation protocols The salary range for this position is $65,591 - $95,254 annually. The actual offered salary for this position will vary depending on multiple factors including the candidates qualification, education, position knowledge, work experience, skills, ability, work location, and internal incumbent compensation for similar roles. We do not anticipate individuals hired into this position will start at or near the top half of the range listed; the decision will be based on each individual case. The salary range listed above does not include other compensation elements such as discretionary bonus opportunities, employee stock ownership grants, paid time off, medical insurance, and other wage and benefit opportunities.
