Job Title: Lab TechnicianJob Description The Lab Technician performs chemical and instrumental analyses on fuels, oils, and other lubricants in an industrial research laboratory focused on automotive products. The role involves conducting standardized tests, preparing solutions and samples, maintaining laboratory equipment and records, and supporting the development of new products while working safely in a fuel and oil testing environment. Responsibilities + Perform chemical and instrumental analysis on fuels, oils, and other lubricants using standard testing methods as prescribed by ASTM testing standards. + Conduct analyses on new or unfamiliar samples introduced into the laboratory. + Prepare solutions, reagents, and solvents required for various tests according to established procedures. + Transfer samples between different work areas in the laboratory in a safe and organized manner. + Maintain laboratory workbooks, logs, and documentation on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) and test instructions (TIP). + Perform routine care, cleaning, and basic maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment as scheduled. + Wash, clean, and properly store laboratory glassware to ensure a clean and safe work area. + Apply basic math calculations to prepare solutions, interpret test results, and record data accurately. + Follow basic laboratory safety practices, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of fuels, oils, and chemicals. + Use MS Office applications to enter, organize, and report test data and results. + Participate in hands-on training and shadowing to learn and apply laboratory procedures and testing methods. + Lift and transport containers or materials weighing up to 50 pounds as needed for sample handling and testing. Essential Skills + High school diploma. + Completion of at least one year of college-level chemistry and math or one year of related laboratory experience. + Experience working in a laboratory environment, including basic sample preparation. + Ability to perform basic math calculations relevant to solution preparation and data interpretation. + Proficiency with MS Office applications for data entry and documentation. + Ability to wash, handle, and care for laboratory glassware safely. + Familiarity with basic laboratory safety practices and safe handling of chemicals and samples. + Ability to lift and transport up to 50 pounds safely. + Willingness to work assigned shifts, including occasional weekend work. + Comfort working around fuel and oil odors in an industrial lab setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Recent associate degree in a science-related field is preferred. + Recent laboratory experience gained through school or academic programs is advantageous. + Interest in gaining true analytical laboratory experience to support long-term career growth. + Ability to learn quickly through hands-on training and shadowing. + Strong attention to detail and commitment to following standard operating procedures and test methods. Work Environment This position is based in an industrial laboratory setting that focuses on research and testing of automotive-related products, particularly fuels, oils, and lubricants. The work environment includes a noticeable fuel and oil smell due to the nature of the samples handled. The schedule follows rotating shifts of 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided, and employees are expected to follow basic laboratory safety practices at all times. Work involves standing at lab benches, using standard laboratory instruments and glassware, performing hands-on testing, and occasionally lifting and transporting items up to 50 pounds. The environment offers structured, hands-on training and shadowing, providing meaningful analytical lab experience and exposure to real-world testing methods to support career development. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Antonio, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $15.50 - $15.50/hr.
