No VP Area U of U Health - Academics Department 00216 - Utah Cancer Registry Location Campus City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range 22.18 to 34.63 Close Date 05/20/2026 Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary The Certified Tumor Registrar is responsible for casefinding, coding, staging and abstracting all reportable cancers and certain benign tumors diagnosed or treated in Utah within the guidelines of the Utah Cancer Registry, Utah Department of Health, Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) program, National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR), and other applicable regulatory bodies. Maintains compliance with cancer registry related policies and procedures. Maintains a current knowledge of staging, coding, and abstracting standards and requirements. Responsibilities 1. Abstracts, reviews and edits cases of malignancies and certain benign tumors which are reportable to the organization. 2. Performs casefinding, coding, staging and quality control on reportable cancer cases utilizing ICD-O-3, ICD-10-CM, SEER Extent of Disease Staging, SEER Summary Staging, treatment coding guidelines, and all SEER and NPCR guidelines. 3. Reviews and interprets patient information as it relates to registry data requirements and use to assess quality data in order to make necessary improvements, corrections, and feedback. 4. Complies with state and federal mandates that require the Utah Cancer Registry to report all diagnosed and/or treated malignancies and certain benign tumors. 5. Participates in the quality management of the registry data and activities 6. Contacts providers and other state cancer registries per the database to gather detailed information and verify or correct patient information. 7. Identifies, researches, plans, develops, implements with department/individual collaboration on regulatory standards, and provides appropriate timely response to inquiries, questions and/or concerns. 8. Compiles data and generates reports for special studies. 9. Assists in retrieving and compiling data for reporting, preparation of annual reporting, or other projects. 10. Assists in development and review of cancer registry policies and procedures. 11. Attends department meetings, conferences or trainings as assigned. 12. Ability to organize and lead teams. Prioritizes and coordinates work processes. Ability to assist in conflict management of team. Provides support to supervisor and management. Minimum Qualifications Required * Current certification as Oncology Data Specialist - Certified (ODS-C) with the National Cancer Registrars Association. * Associate's degree in a Health Information Management or National Cancer Registrar Association (NCRA) related field, or equivalency. * Two years of related experience.
