Salary and Benefits: The salary for newly appointed law enforcement Border Patrol Agents ranges from GL-9/GS-11, $63,148 - $120,145 per year. In addition, you can earn locality pay based on your duty station, and potentially receive overtime pay of up to 25%. As a BPA, you are in a career ladder position, progressing from GL-9 to GS-11 and then GS-12, with eligibility for promotion after one year in each grade level. Incentives: Recruitment Incentive: New hires may receive up to $20,000 in incentives, with $10,000 paid after completing training, and another $10,000 for accepting roles in high-priority locations. Retention Incentive: Additional incentives up to $40,000 may be available over four years to support long-term commitment. Job Responsibilities: As a Border Patrol Agent, you will play a vital role in protecting the American populace by securing borders and deterring illegal activities. Your responsibilities will include: Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration laws. Preventing and apprehending anyone attempting illegal entry, often using covert surveillance techniques. Conducting checks of vehicles, people, and traffic. Patrolling critical areas using various government resources, including vehicles and boats. Qualifications: To qualify for GL-9, you will need one year of relevant experience performing duties such as: Conducting physical searches and inspections. Collaborating with law enforcement to apprehend violators. Utilizing firearms and preparing investigative documentation. If you have a law enforcement or military law enforcement background, you might qualify for the GS-11 level, requiring one year of specialized experience in law enforcement operations. Additional Requirements: Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Residency: Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years is required.
