REGISTERED NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNOLOGIST - IMAGING - 20 HOURS WEEKLY - DAY SHIFT Schedule: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Rotating every third weekend General Summary: * The Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for supporting the Mission and Vision of Crittenton Hospital Medical Center (CHMC) by, following written orders from a physician and under the direction of a Radiologist, performs a variety of procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of radionuclides for diagnosis and treatment. * Assumes responsibility for designated areas of procedures and/or may be assigned duties as an instructor in areas of specific competence. * Charged with patient care responsibilities while the patient is in the department. * Recognizes the purpose of employment is to prioritize the patient as number one, and to put forth the utmost quality as a Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist. * Maintains a positive and professional atmosphere for patients. * Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary in order to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical or emotional stress. * Gather and exchange patient information with nursing personnel and physicians as required. * Maintains logs of daily quality control of instruments, monitors incoming shipments of radionuclides and keeps required records mandated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and state agencies. * Orders radionuclides and other supplies for patient procedures and office needs. * Assures the "two step" identification of all patients without fail, before injecting radionuclides. * Explains the procedure and provides detailed instructions as required to the patient. * Prepares the radionuclides based on the physician's order and the departmental protocols. * Injects the isotopes under the general radiologist's supervision and subsequently performs the ordered scans using various cameras, computers, and imagers. * Monitors the department for contamination and adheres to all other applicable licensing agencies rules and regulations. * Makes patient appointments and provides preparatory instructions to patients, physicians, physician's offices, and nursing unit personnel as required. * Maintains orderliness and cleanliness, including provision for the contamination free condition of rooms, equipment and personnel. * Secures and returns supplies. * Assists in equipment calibration and radioisotope assay operation. * Maintains adequate records of radioisotope receipts, use storage, and disposal in accordance with state and federal guidelines. * Reports equipment failure/malfunction to specified service provider. * Requests assistance of a Radiology Supervisor or Director if problems are not resolved in a timely manner. * May be responsible for specific areas of instruction for new employees and/or students. * Cooperates with all department personnel in a positive and professional manner. * Serves on specific committees dealing with Quality Assurance and the use of radiation as requested. * May be required to assist in the development of technical factors and equipment and film selection. * Performs a variety of related clerical tasks as necessary. * Adheres to and practices prescribed standards for Radiation Safety. * Handles equipment in a responsible, professional manner. * Maintains a professional appearance by adhering to Dress and Grooming Policy of Radiology. * Maintains Continuing Education Credits as required by SNM or other governing agencies. * Other related duties as required. * This position requires the ability to identify age related differences within the persons served and the adjustment of treatment style and expectations as appropriate, including adjustments based on the person's served cognitive function and learning ability. * This will include taking into account their religious and cultural needs and preferences. Licensure / Certification / Registration: Required Credential(s): * Must possess and maintain a valid nuclear medicine registration from credentialing bodies such as the ARRT, Society of Nuclear Medicine or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) at time of hire/transfer date required. Education: * High school graduate. Work Experience: * One (1) year of full-time experience in clinical Nuclear Medicine Imaging is preferred. * Special demands include promptness, accuracy, patience, courtesy, understanding of patients needs and rigid adherence to safety and quality control.
