The department manages approximately 2,700 child support cases. Providing customers excellent service is a top priority. Candidates should be a subject matter expert in case management with a record of excellent performance, conduct and professionalism.About the Position:Under limited supervision, the Child Support Specialist IV performs a wide variety of child support duties involving the most difficult and sensitive cases; acts in a lead capacity by training, reviewing, assigning, and directing the work of subordinate staff; acts in the supervisor's absence, assists with low-level administrative functions, and performs related work as required. Examples of Duties Analyzes and evaluates the more complex and sensitive Child Support cases. Coordinates and conducts interviews with multiple parties (e.g., custodial parent, non-custodial parent, witnesses, employers, attorneys) to obtain and/or verify child support case information. Develops and analyzes information for the establishment of paternity (e.g., genetic tests).Locates absent parents using a variety of methods and tools (e.g., contacting other agencies, databases, web searches).Reviews parental financial income and expense data (e.g., child support payments, expenses, income, ability to pay) to determine support requirements; explains the process by which support is determined to custodial and non-custodial parents. Education, Experience & LicensesMinimum Qualifications:Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) gradeOne (1) year of full-time experience as a Child Support Specialist III or Child Support Specialist IV in a local, state, public, or privatized child support services agency ORThree (3) years of full-time experience as a Child Support Specialist II in a local, state, public, or privatized child support services agencyLicense and Special Requirements:Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Due to IRS Publication 1075 Guidelines as established by the Federal Government and required by California Department of Child Support Services, all employees will be subject to a background check at the time of hiring and at least every 5 years. Recruitment InformationThe department is recruiting to fill one (1) vacancy.Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Child Support Specialist IV, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.Examination Information:In addition to meeting minimum qualifications for years of work experience in the field, candidates must complete a Training and Experience Examination. Responses will be evaluated by subject matter experts (e.g., managers of the position). Applicants who provide responses which demonstrate that they possess the requisite job-related education and experience on each exam section will be placed on the eligible list. Applicants must "pass" all three of the below scoring criteria to be placed on the eligible list for an interview.
