As a Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO), you will be instrumental in: Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations. Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel. Conducting thorough inspections of individuals and vehicles. Assessing the admissibility of individuals entering the United States. Preventing illegal entry of individuals and contraband. Salary and Benefits Recruitment Incentives: Newly appointed CBPOs can receive up to a $15,000 incentive per year for a three-year service commitment in select locations. The annual salary for newly appointed CBPOs varies from $40,332 to $109,952, depending on grade level and location. Fully trained CBPOs may earn additional overtime pay of up to $45,000. This is a progressive career ladder position with opportunities for advancement to higher grades. Qualifications: You must meet the following requirements to qualify for the GS-5 grade level: Experience: At least three (3) years of general work experience demonstrating interpersonal skills and the capacity to learn and apply information; or Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; or Combination: A blend of education and experience will be considered. For the GS-7 grade level, qualifications include: Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-5 level. Education: A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement or one year of graduate-level education; or Combination: Specialized experience and graduate education. Additional requirements include: U.S. Citizenship Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years Age under 40 at selection unless military or prior law enforcement experience applies Complete a paid training program, including the CBP Field Operations Academy and necessary language training as required for certain locations.
