Job DescriptionThis Opportunity WSP has a career opportunity for an Assistant Laboratory Technician for our Chevron Mine Wastewater Treatment Plant near Questa, New Mexico. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the Wastewater Treatment Plant water quality laboratory and performing facility, environmental and project required sample analysis. The successful candidate will work with the operations team and maintenance counterparts to ensure compliance with laws, policies and regulations and provide technical support and information to site staff within scope of experience. Your Impact Conduct environmental sampling and analysis and water flow data logging at several remote locations on the site Responsible for overseeing the WTP process operations to ensure compliance with discharge regulatory requirements and liasing with the WTP Site Supervisor to mitigate unplanned facility shutdowns. Laboratory Operation and Maintenance Water Quality Laboratory housekeeping and maintenance Water Quality Laboratory procedures and job aids preparation and maintenance WTP, environmental and other sample preparation and analysis using site benchtop and advanced instruments Maintenance of site environmental data for use by client and client consultants Sample preparation and shipment for off-site environmental lab analysis Process data compilation, entry and analysis Assist with oversight of operations staff and treatment process decisions Management of laboratory and other site wastes with RCRA and DOT training required Health Safety Security and Environment Operate and maintain all equipment in a safe and controlled manner in accordance with site health and safety plans and industry best practices and applicable federal programs, such as OSHA Operate treatment equipment in accordance with discharge permits or other regulatory requirements Identifying and reporting potential and existing site hazards, incidents, potential Fatal Risk Controls, and pSIFs Teamwork and Collaboration Supervise subordinate shift operator technicians in their routine and non-routine activities Assist maintenance personnel when needed in repairs and maintenance requiring two or more people Participate in site meetings and handoff meetings Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are High School Diploma or GED 3+ years of plant operations experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience 1 year of experience operating and maintaining advanced laboratory instrumentation Ability to obtain a 40-hour OSHA HazWOPER certificate or have a current certificate Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and anti-harassment policies. Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening. This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request. Other Working Conditions and Physical Demands Job sites may be located at various elevations, including mountain environments at elevations above 8,000 feet, depending on the site Exposure to differing temperature levels, including extreme heat and extreme cold, snowy conditions Noise levels are usually loud Required use of correct PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility clothing, steel-toed work boots and anti-slip footwear devices, occasional use of a respirator is required Manual dexterity required to use equipment Lifting, moving, and carrying up to 50 lbs may be required Prolonged periods of standing, walking, reaching, balancing, kneeling crouching, crawling and ascending stairs throughout facility Walk the process floor and hike unimproved areas of the site, walking may exceed several miles per day Preferred Qualifications Preferred: WWTP Class B Operator Certification Experience operating and maintaining an inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) laboratory instrument Experience with environmental ground and surface water sampling #LI-MC2 About Us About WSP WSP USA is the U.S. operating company of WSP, one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms.
