We're seeking a Buyer to join our fast-paced Purchasing team in Pomfret, CT. Job Description The Buyer MRO & Consumables is responsible for sourcing and procuring maintenance, repair, operating (MRO) materials, consumables, and services in support of production and maintenance operations within a manufacturing environment. This role partners closely with Maintenance, Production, and Quality / Engineering teams to ensure material availability, optimize inventory levels, and drive continuous cost improvements. Key Responsibilities Procure MRO materials and consumables in support of production and maintenance requirements Review and process purchase requisitions; create, issue, and manage purchase orders Source and quote materials from approved and new suppliers to ensure best value, quality, and delivery Negotiate pricing, lead times, terms, and contracts with vendors Maintain and manage inventory levels, including setting and adjusting reorder points and safety stock with appropriate team Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to quality, delivery, and cost Identify and lead cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., supplier consolidation, alternate sourcing, standardization) Support plant uptime by ensuring timely availability of critical MRO items Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory data within ERP/MRP systems Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand demand, forecast usage, and align procurement strategies Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and ethical sourcing standards Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience) 2+ years of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment Experience purchasing MRO materials and consumables strongly preferred Proven ability to negotiate with suppliers and manage vendor relationships Experience with ERP/MRP systems and inventory management practices Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication and collaboration skills Preferred Skills Experience driving cost reduction or value-engineering projects Knowledge of maintenance and production operations Familiarity with inventory optimization and demand planning concepts Continuous improvement or Lean manufacturing exposure Cost-focused and results-driven mindset Strong attention to detail and follow-through Proactive and self-motivated Collaborative approach with internal teams and external suppliers
