About the role Falcon IT and Staffing Solutions is seeking a skilled Data Center Hardware Technician II to join our team. This mid-level role involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting IT hardware and cabling in a data center environment. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with data center infrastructure, understands power and cooling requirements, and is proficient in cabling and hardware installation standards. Job Responsibilities Evaluate data center infrastructure requirements and coordinate resources for equipment installation. Provision cabling, rack rails, and mounting hardware for IT devices and systems. Perform end-to-end installation of fiber and copper patch cables and management cabling. Troubleshoot hardware issues and replace failed components in coordination with systems engineers. Maintain accurate labeling, configuration changes, and inventory records using Excel, SharePoint, or data center information systems. Adhere to all data center safety policies and installation standards. Uncrate and organize equipment and remove refuse to maintain a safe work environment. Monitor data center IT and environmental systems and coordinate repairs with vendors or technicians. Manage hardware inventory control systems and maintain parts and tools inventory. Perform corrective, adaptive, and preventative maintenance on data center IT equipment. Install and certify copper and fiber communications cable terminations using test equipment. Provide timely problem resolution and knowledge transfer to government staff through training and documentation. Knowledge of National Standards for Data Center IT infrastructure including BICSI, TIA-606, and TIA-942. BICSI Installer 2 certification for both Copper (INSTC) and Fiber (INSTF). CompTIA A+ certification. Ability to interpret manufacturer installation guides and wiring diagrams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Visio or CADD for diagramming. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring kneeling, crawling, and the use of power tools. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to coordinate with systems engineers and vendors. Adherence to data center safety rules and installation standards. Effective communication skills to train and assist government staff on technology use.
