Assesses and reassesses young adult, adult, and elderly patients. Demonstrates basic competency in specialized procedures and equipment such as cardiac monitoring. Performs head-to-toe assessments on all patients and re-assessments as per policy. Provides individualized, age-specific care that supports homeostatic regulation, hemodynamic monitoring, and physiologic functioning. Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Maintains patient confidentiality. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families. Functions as a patient advocate. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles over the life span. Interacts professionally with patients and families and involves them in the formation of an individualized plan of care. Reviews, revises, updates, and resolves the plan of care daily. Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates the effectiveness of learning. Includes family in teaching as appropriate. Supervises other healthcare staff involved in patient care. Allocates and monitors the work of others. Assists physicians with procedures as needed. Responds promptly to changes in workload as necessary to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency. Participates in performance improvement activities to improve patient outcomes and processes. Functions as a preceptor to orient new employees. Enhances professional growth through participation in educational programs and workshops. Maintains operation of patient care equipment including mechanical adjustments. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and the proper functioning of equipment. Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and ability to function under stressful situations. Meets all departmental specific competencies. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
