Job Description: Grow Native plants from seed to finished liners. Work as a member of the PNPN team striving to achieve high standards in regard to facility appearance and quality control. Strive for an exceptional level of customer service by maintaining a professional attitude when interacting with clients. Hours:7am - 3:30pmSome weekend workGrowing Operations:• Monitor systems and equipment in all growing areas.• Abides by all state and local safety regulations.• Fertilizer, herbicide, fungicide & pesticide applications and scheduling in propagation areas.• Assist with seed harvest & cleaning.• Over-wintering preparation and maintenance• Deep clean grow areas in between growing seasons.• Inspect growing structures daily and monitor for damage and fix, if possible, otherwise notify Grow Manager• Schedule and apply rice hulls throughout the nursery. Maintain equipment and notify grow managers of inventory needs.• Maintain plant height for shipping and quality control. Maintain cutting equipment and communicate with grow manager for inventory needs.• Cooperate with other departments regarding irrigation and spray schedule.• Monitors growing conditions and discusses changes in humidity, moisture, temperature and cultivation procedures with grow team to ensure conformance with quality control standards.• Regularly inspect crops to ascertain conditions and existence of pests or disease.• Apply fertilizer, herbicide, pesticide and fungicides.• Skid steer loader operation.• Respirator operation and maintenance.• Communication with the Grow Manager regarding losses or IPM issues • Maintain heating/cooling systems in propagation areas.• Application and maintenance of beneficial insect populations.• Keep track of pesticide/herbicide inventory and communicate with grow manager for chemical inventory needs.General Nursery Maintenance: • Weed management• Laying and repairing ground cloth.• Assist with covering and uncovering hoop bouses.• Set up hoses for production to water in newly shown transplants.• Unload deliveries of building /growing materials.Assist in plant production and other tasks including:• Transplanting • SeedingLearn native plant species and their characteristicsSafety:Safety is always Pizzo's number one goal.
