Position OverviewThis role is responsible for overseeing all procurement activities within a manufacturing operation focused on electronics and complex assemblies. The position ensures timely sourcing of raw materials, finished goods, equipment, and services while balancing cost efficiency, supplier quality, delivery performance, and inventory optimization. The role includes leadership of a small purchasing team and close collaboration with engineering, operations, finance, and quality functions.The ideal candidate demonstrates strong negotiation capabilities, deep knowledge of electronics and PCB manufacturing, experience working with contract manufacturers, and the ability to manage inventory in a fast-paced production environment.Key ResponsibilitiesManage purchase orders from creation through receipt and reconciliationMaintain accurate records of purchasing activities, contracts, and pricing historyCoordinate with accounting to resolve invoice discrepanciesSupport continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction and process efficiencyIdentify, qualify, and manage suppliers of electrical and mechanical components as well as finished goodsNegotiate pricing, contracts, lead times, and commercial termsDevelop and maintain a reliable supplier base while mitigating supply-chain riskMonitor market trends, component obsolescence, and industry-wide shortages (e.g., semiconductors)Oversee inventory levels to balance cost, availability, and production demandForecast material requirements using production plans and historical dataImplement and maintain inventory control best practicesPartner with production and engineering teams to ensure BOM accuracy and material availabilityEvaluate supplier performance using metrics such as on-time delivery, quality, and costResolve supplier issues related to quality concerns, delays, or non-complianceSupport engineering efforts to qualify alternate components and suppliersProvide day-to-day guidance and leadership to 1-2 purchasing team membersRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)7-10+ years of experience in purchasing or procurement, ideally within electronics manufacturingStrong knowledge of electronic components, PCBs, and manufacturing supply chainsProven negotiation and contract management experienceProficiency with ERP/MRP systemsStrong analytical, organizational, and communication skillsCore CompetenciesDetail Oriented: Ensures accuracy in orders, specifications, and dataCost Conscious: Proactively identifies cost-saving opportunities without compromising qualityProblem Solver: Effectively manages shortages, disruptions, and engineering changesCollaborative: Works cross-functionally with internal teams and leadershipAdaptable: Thrives in a dynamic manufacturing environmentWorking Conditions & Physical RequirementsPrimarily office-based work environmentRequires sitting, walking, lifting, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, speaking, hearing, and visual acuityRegular use of computer and standard office equipmentOccasional movement between office and operational areasExposure to typical manufacturing environmental conditions, including noise, vibration, oils, solvents, and chemicals
