Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Mental Health Payrate: $45-$50 an hr Job Type: Contract (Not PRN) Location: Orient, OH 43146 Shift: 6:00 PM - 7:20 AM Schedule: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday Must be flexible - schedule/days/hours may change based on facility needs. Duration: Contract until position is filled Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with mental health/psychiatric nursing experience to provide professional nursing care within a state-operated corrections or institutional facility in Ohio. This role involves delivering comprehensive care to inmates, juvenile offenders, or consumers housed in a secure facility, including those on the mental health unit. This is a high-responsibility position requiring strong clinical judgment, leadership skills, and the ability to work in a secure environment. Job Duties (In Order of Importance) Duties are illustrative and may include some or all of the following: Clinical Nursing Responsibilities Provide professional nursing care to inmates or institutionalized individuals Observe, assess, and document symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients Make nursing rounds and record vital signs Prepare and administer prescribed medications, including narcotics Implement ordered treatment plans and immunizations Monitor restrained or isolated patients at required intervals (e.g., every 15 minutes) Respond to medical emergencies: Administer first aid Arrange transportation to emergency room Contact staff physician as needed Counsel patients regarding medical referrals Corrections Medical Center Responsibilities (If Assigned) Responsible for the health care of 20-60 bedridden inmates Develop and implement care plans Teach health care principles Perform specialized procedures, including: IV therapy Chemotherapy Wound care Oxygen therapy Dialysis Blood transfusions Intubation and CPR Tube feeding Catheterization Suctioning Phlebotomy Leadership & Administrative Responsibilities Organize and oversee Code Blue team Direct hospital aides and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) Act as lead RN on assigned shift in absence of higher-level nursing staff Assist physicians with diagnostic evaluations Review care plans written by staff Train and orient new employees Participate in staff development and education May schedule, assign, and review work of lower-level staff Documentation & Clerical Duties Chart medications, treatments, and pertinent medical information Complete incident and accident reports Document Medicaid information Order supplies and equipment Maintain accurate inventory of controlled drugs and medical equipment Arrange outpatient clinic appointments Coordinate medical exams with physicians Arrange new and refilled prescriptions Serve as liaison within organization Attend and/or conduct meetings Serve on problem-solving teams Required Qualifications Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio (per Section 4723.03 of the Ohio Revised Code) Mandatory mental health/psychiatric nursing experience Current BLS/CPR certification Computer literate Ability to write accurate and concise reports Knowledge of state and federal nursing regulations Skilled in use of medical equipment (stethoscope, otoscope, BP cuff, EKG machine) Ability to meet physical demands of position (extensive walking required) Must be flexible with schedule Candidate must be available to work posted shift Resumes submitted over the maximum budgeted bill rate will be rejected Facility & Security Requirements This is a secure corrections facility. The following rules apply: No cell phones permitted until proper paperwork is submitted and approved Must clear a metal detector No cans, tobacco, vapes, or prohibited items permitted Food/drinks must be in clear, see-through containers No more than 1 gallon of water may be brought into the facility Corrections RN Benefits: Benefits are available to full-time employees after 90 days of employment and include health, optical, dental, life, and short-term disability insurance.
