Job Title To provide a combination of secretarial, computer data entry, reception and clerical duties at the direction of the Administrative Nurse Manager or Designee. Responsibilities 1. Transcription of Physician's Orders and computer skills. Initiates or updates appropriate patient information in the Chart Review Conservation of the computer system where appropriate. Reviews data in Chart Review on a daily basis and eliminates any non-current data, according to unit standard. Notifies appropriate personnel of STAT orders. Accesses lab values when requested. Calls department for facilitation of transcribed orders when appropriate. 2. Record Maintenance. Prepares, maintains and forwards records in an accurate and timely manner. Replenishes and reviews records on a daily basis, according to unit procedures. Files all reports in the correct patient's records daily. Prepares records for admission, transfer, surgery, procedures, discharge and expiration. Delivers expiration records to Admitting, immediately. Processes discharge records according to standard chart order. 3. Communication. Communicates effectively and courteously with patients, visitors, and coworkers within the scope of his/her responsibilities. Identifies unit and self when answering phone. Uses a Windows-based computer system competently. Assists the RN in care delivery by providing accurate and timely processing of communications. Relays information to appropriate person in a timely manner. 4. Occupational and Personal Responsibilities. Demonstrates compliance with identified policies and procedures in carrying out unit assignments i.e., postings, work sheets, maintenance of data and knowledge of medical terminology. Demonstrates willingness to assist with and improve unit operations. Maintains neat and orderly appearance and environment. 5. Equipment and Supplies. Monitors, orders and oversees maintenance of equipment and supplies in a proper, orderly and cost-effective manner. Enters and renews chargeable items/services into computer system for patient care correctly. Contacts appropriate departments as directed by Manager/designee, for needed services on nursing unit. 6. Policy and Procedure. Receives patient posting and assists in room assignments as necessary. Updates and maintains Unit Secretary Worksheets where appropriate. Assists in QA studies as assigned by the Nurse Manager/designee. Maintains and updates telephone listings. 7. Unit Rounds. Checks all patient's line of vision, and/or identification bands and bed tags per unit standards. Sorts and delivers patient mail when received. Respects patients privacy. 8. Performs other duties as assigned. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. Other Information Required: High School Graduate or equivalent. Previous secretarial/computer experience preferred with Windows based computer system. Hospital or other health care setting experience. Minimum Experience: zero to six months Working Conditions: Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity Occupational: Significant occupational risk Physical Effort: Medium to Heavy effort.
