Job Description:
Northport VA Medical Center is seeking a part-time Board Certified Physician (Dermatologist). This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing direct hands-on patient care in both outpatient and inpatient settings using evidence-based medicine. Assessing patients for acute illnesses. Managing chronic and acute dermatologic diseases, including but not limited to prescribing appropriate medications. Evaluating and treating inpatient and outpatient consults. Supervising and teaching dermatology residents in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. Overseeing mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners, to ensure that the highest quality of dermatologic care is available to veterans. This includes periodic assessment of staff and resident proficiencies. Experience and proficiency in outpatient dermatologic procedures. This involves overseeing resident participation in these procedures, including but not limited to cryosurgery, intralesional injections, skin biopsies, simple excisions and closures, and electrodessication and curettage. Additionally, experience with and interest in performing light treatments, including narrow-band UVB, patch testing, photodynamic therapy, botulinum toxin injections for hyperhidrosis, and chemical peels, are desirable. Participating in academic activities, including supervision of dermatology residents from Stony Brook University and teaching medical students. Providing teledermatology services primarily via VA Video Connect, as well as other mobile applications, as deemed necessary. Exceptional ability to work collaboratively with others both within the Division of Dermatology as well as other members of the Northport VAMC community. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Providing appropriate patient and family member teaching and education. Utilizing the Computer Patient Records System (CPRS) for entering and signing consultations, progress notes, and medical orders. Completing consultations, progress notes and accurate coding of encounters in a timely fashion. Ensuring accurate documentation of medical assessments and observations. Maintaining familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and procedures. Following up with patients and communicating test results to them in a timely fashion. Providing clinical guidance over the phone and by Secure Messaging as needed. Participation in accreditation requirements, quality improvement programs, chart reviews and peer reviews. Consultation with other specialists when their expertise is needed for diagnoses, treatments or procedures. The provider should inform patients of the required consult.
