Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. The Isaacs Center focuses primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational.Purpose of Position: Under the supervision of the Food Service Manager the primary function of the Kitchen porter/Dishwasher is to provide daily support to the kitchen team. The kitchen porter/dishwasher assists with kitchen cleanliness and maintaining kitchen organization. The individual in this role will be well-versed in DOHMH health code regulations, and a team player with good customer service and communication skills.Schedule: Monday through Friday 35 hours per weekSalary Range: $19/hCandidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidate's number of years experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be taken into account.Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential DutiesAssists in the maintenance, cleanliness and sanitization of refrigeration/freezer units, steam tables, beverage dispensers, dining room tables, cupboards, shelves/racks, work surfaces, cooking equipment, dishes, utensils, appliances, and storage areas.Remove garbage regularly including disposal of recycling boxesSweep, mop and sanitize kitchen, pantry, and prep room floor.Maintains the dry storage area and the organization of storage shelves.Receive and unload kitchen supplies; check invoices against supplies; stock supply shelves.Load and unload an industrial dishwasher, wash dishes by hand if necessary.Set up workstations before meal prep beginsActively participate in all aspects of staff development, including weekly supervision, team meetings, and training during the yearPerform other duties as neededQualifications/Educational RequirementsA High School Diploma or GEDAbility to stoop, bend, lift and carry 50+ lbs.Ability to stand for extended periods of timeMust have Food handler's Card or be willing to attend class safetyKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environmentAbility to keep dish room and equipment clean and organizedAbility to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends- with up to 48- 72 hour noticeAbility to work well with a diverse group of staffAbility to handle multiple tasks in an organized, timely and hospitable mannerRequired to work on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day between 6:00 am to 1:00 pmWorkplace SafetyUtilize the provided personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves at all times; use provided hand sanitizer as neededFollow established cleaning and sanitization proceduresReport immediately; personal flu-like symptomsReport immediately; personal exposure to others who have exhibited flu-like symptomsEmployee BenefitsMedical/Dental/VisionLife Insurance/Commuter benefits/Employee Assistance Program (EAP)/Flexible Spending Accounts403B Thrift Retirement Plan12 Annual Sick Days12 Agency Holidays20 Days or 4 Weeks of Paid Time off and an additional week (5) days after 5 years of employmentTotal of more than 6 weeks (a month and half) of paid time offWe are committed to building an inclusive workplace community grounded in respect for differences.
