A $1.18 billion design-build contract from the Gateway Development Commission for the HTP which aims to enhance rail resiliency by adding two new tracks between New York and New Jersey and rehabilitating the storm-damaged North River Tunnel. The project includes designing and constructing twin 30-foot diameter, 700-foot-long tunnels under the Hudson River, connecting to existing tunnels beneath Hudson Yards, and an access shaft at 12th Avenue, later serving as a ventilation facility.Extraordinary Projects, Exceptional PerformanceDESCRIPTION:As a Heavy Civil CAD Engineer at Frontier-Kemper-Tutor Perini joint venture, you will have the opportunity to support the development of construction drawings and design deliverables for complex heavy civil and infrastructure projects. This role reports to the Sr. Project Engineer and will work closely with design engineers, project managers, and field teams to translate engineering concepts into accurate, high-quality drawings that support successful project execution.The ideal candidate has strong experience in structural drafting for civil works such as bridges, tunnels, shafts, retaining structures, and foundations, and is proficient in industry-standard CAD software. Develop detailed structural drawings, plans, and layouts based on engineering designs and specifications Prepare 2D and 3D models for structural components including concrete, steel, and underground structures Interpret engineering sketches, calculations, and design notes into accurate CAD drawings Coordinate with engineers and multidisciplinary teams (geotechnical, mechanical, electrical) to ensure design integration Revise and update drawings based on internal reviews, client feedback, and field conditions Maintain drawing standards, templates, and file organization in accordance with company and project requirements Assist in quantity take-offs and material layouts as needed Support preparation of shop drawings, as-built drawings, and construction documentation Ensure all deliverables meet quality standards, project schedules, and regulatory requirements REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field 3+ years of experience in structural CAD design within heavy civil construction environments Proficiency in AutoCAD and Bluebeam (required) Experience with Civil 3D, Inventor, or Revit (strongly preferred) Strong understanding of structural systems including concrete, steel, and foundation design Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, and specifications Knowledge of industry standards (AASHTO, ACI, ASTM, etc.) Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYC DOB, or MTA/NJT drawing standards and submission requirements (preferred) Experience supporting design-build delivery, especially for heavy civil or transit infrastructure Exposure to temporary works drawings (formwork, shoring, ground support, freeze pipe layouts) Experience with geotechnical or subsurface project environments Experience managing drawing sets in a large-scale project environment, including revision control, transmittals, and document management systems Willingness and ability to conduct field visits for as-built verification and to support construction teams OUR MISSIONWe build critical infrastructure that creates a better world.OUR VISIONWe strive to be the preeminent full-service civil, building, and specialty contractor by delivering innovative, transformative projects through world-class execution.
