Job Description:
Our client is a biotech hedge fund with $2bn AUM that has consistently outperformed peer funds and the NBI. The team operates with a lean structure, led by 2 Founders from top tier life sciences funds and supported by 4 additional Investment Professionals. This is a true career track role, with an expectation and encouragement to stay long term and a clear historical precedent of promoting from within. The team is based in NYC with onsite work most of the week and some flexibility. The fund is long only with the ability to invest privately as needed, taking a venture style approach to the public markets with a highly concentrated portfolio.ResponsibilitiesConduct qualitative and quantitative fundamental analysis of companies, including assessment of competitive advantage, management team, and industry structurePerform in-depth investment research: including both independent and due diligence such as speaking company management teams and industry experts, and analyzing publicly available data such SEC documents, company conference callsConduct detailed fundamental analyses of companies and industries, building financial forecast models, performing valuation analyses, and assessing the risks.Analyze financial metrics of companies by evaluating historical performance and building models of financial statements, including proprietary forecastsPerforms valuation analyses on companies, including price targets as well as upside and downside valuationActively monitor existing holdings and investment opportunities within marketSupport Sales and Marketing teams with external communications as assignedKeep abreast of industry approaches and best practices and integrates findings into work as appropriateParticipate in ad hoc research projects as neededRelated duties and projects as assignedQualifications2+ years' experience in Biotech Investment, Equity Research, Consulting, Investment Banking, etc..Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) preferred but not requiredExcellent research, financial modeling, analytical, and valuation skillsPassion for financial analysis, company analysis, and industry researchExcellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate complex subject matterDemonstrates strong analyst acumenAbility to work well independently, prioritize, and manage time effectively in a dynamic and changing environmentDemonstrates good working relationships with all departments
