Job Description:
We are an 8-location NYC hospitality group seeking a hands-on Controller to lead and own the accounting function across all entities. Reporting directly to ownership (acting CFO), this role is responsible for delivering accurate, timely financials and clear visibility into performance across a multi-unit operation. This is a highly hands-on role. While we leverage Restaurant365 (R365) and external partners, the Controller will be directly involved in day-to-day accounting (AP workflows, reconciliations) while owning the close and financial reporting. Ideal for someone who has operated in a small to mid-size restaurant group and is comfortable being both the doer and the owner of accounting, partnering closely with leadership to improve processes, reporting, and financial discipline. Key Responsibilities Financial Operations Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions Ensure accurate expense coding by location and department Maintain multi-unit accounting records across 8 locations Review and approve journal entries and reconciliations Monitor cash activity and perform bank reconciliations Month-End Close & Reporting Own and lead the monthly close process and ensure timely, accurate reporting Prepare consolidated financial statements and location-level P&Ls Maintain clean and reliable financials for ownership review and decision-making Operational Finance & Analysis Analyze labor, COGS, and operating expenses across locations Partner with operations teams and GMs to understand performance drivers Identify cost savings opportunities and support vendor and cost control initiatives Systems & Process (R365) Own Restaurant365 (R365) workflows, integrations, and data integrity Ensure accurate integration with POS, payroll, banking, and inventory systems Improve processes, automation, and reporting within R365 Controls & Compliance Maintain and strengthen internal controls Ensure compliance with sales tax, payroll tax, and other filings Serve as primary contact for external CPA (year-end and ad hoc support) Support audit preparation and documentation Collaboration & Ownership Work closely with ownership (CFO) on reporting and ad hoc analysis Coordinate with external partners and cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and timeliness Improve accounting workflows and maintain clear accountability for close timelines Opportunity to help build and shape the accounting function over time Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance 5+ years of progressive accounting experience Experience in multi-unit hospitality or restaurant environments strongly preferred Strong knowledge of GAAP Strong experience with Restaurant365 (R365) or similar systems preferred Advanced Excel skills Strong organizational and communication skills What We Offer Competitive salary: $115,000 – $135,000 Bonus opportunity Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and holidays 401(k) plan Opportunity to grow within an expanding hospitality group We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at all levels of the organization.
