Lead Mechanical Estimator ???? Location: New Castle, Delaware ???? Compensation: $100,000 to $150,000 annually (based on experience) ???? Employment Type: Full-Time Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Estimator to oversee and manage the estimating process for mechanical construction projects. This role is responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and profitable cost estimates for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical knowledge, leadership ability, and experience leading bids for industrial and commercial mechanical projects. This position plays a key role in preconstruction strategy, risk evaluation, and bid execution. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage mechanical estimating efforts from project pursuit through bid submission Develop detailed cost estimates for HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and mechanical systems Perform quantity takeoffs, subcontractor solicitation, bid leveling, and scope analysis Review drawings, specifications, addendums, and contract documents to define complete project scope Identify risks, gaps, and value engineering opportunities to improve competitiveness and profitability Coordinate with project management, operations, and procurement teams during bid strategy development Lead bid review meetings and ensure accurate final pricing prior to submission Analyze subcontractor proposals and negotiate pricing when necessary Develop conceptual estimates, GMP budgets, and hard-bid pricing Support project handoff to operations with clear scope documentation and cost breakdowns Mentor and support junior estimators as needed Required Qualifications 7+ years of mechanical estimating experience Proven experience estimating commercial or industrial mechanical projects Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and process piping Experience with bid leveling and subcontractor coordination Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications Experience performing detailed takeoffs and cost modeling Strong understanding of labor productivity, material pricing, and project risk Experience with estimating software (Bluebeam, Trimble, Sage, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar) Excellent communication and leadership skills Preferred Qualifications Experience leading estimating teams or mentoring junior estimators Background in industrial construction or large-scale mechanical projects Experience with design-build and GMP estimating Knowledge of value engineering and cost optimization strategies
