Job Description:
Nature of Work: This position oversees the operation of Narragansett Town Beach, parking lots, facilities, and restroom as well as providing supervision for attendants and lifeguards while creating a safe and clean environment for beach patrons and guests. The Assistant Beach Manager acts as the Beach Manager in the absence of the Beach Manager. This employee is directly supervised by the Parks and Recreation Director or his/her designee. Essential Functions: 1. Supervision of beach employees, attendants and lifeguards, to support operations of the beach, and facilities.2. Closing or not opening the beach due to inclement weather conditions after consulting with the Director. 3. Closing all bathing areas whenever such action is deemed necessary during periods of severe surf, undertow and other emergency conditions in the interest of public safety and after consulting with lifeguards. Whenever a bathing area is closed because of the aforesaid conditions, lifeguards shall be retained on the beach to caution prospective bathers against entering the water. 4. Consult with the Director on any safety concerns, problems or questions. 5. As an employee of the Town of Narragansett, you are a representative of the Town and must greet patrons and guests politely and properly, in a friendly and courteous manner. 6. Conduct periodic meetings with employees (pre-season as well). 7. Open and close beach depending on the weather. Consult with the Director regarding decisions to close or not to open the beach due to inclement weather. 8. Send email messages notifying staff of any changes9. Check condition of beach before attendants and lifeguards arrive.10. Check condition of beach before attendants and lifeguards leave and complete daily beach closure checklist. 11. Consult with Director on the operation of the beach. Request resources needed to maintain a safe and clean environment for patrons and guests. 12. Monitor trash receptacles on a regular basis throughout the day. Empty trash as needed. 13. Repair and replace equipment, always maintaining in good condition. Perform minor maintenance on beach facilities and structures. 14. Check restroom conditions throughout the day. On the hour on busy days. 15. Perform periodic walks down the beach and facilities checking for cleanliness, trash, and orderliness. 16. Assist with selling and replacing seasonal parking passes. 17. Keep written record of rescues, assists and accidents. 18. Assist in emergencies (lost children, parents, medical, etc.)19. Secure power and water to facilities, as required. 20. Maintain inventory list and order supplies with Director's approval. 21. When necessary, call police, rescue, RIDEM, or CRMC. Post telephone number at beach office. 22. Review and approve weekly timecards and make any necessary corrections and adjustments in Executime for lifeguards, attendants, and supervisor staff ensuring that no staff exceeds 40 hours. Minimum Required Qualifications:1. Must be at least 18 years of age2. Must have the ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedules3. Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the public4. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. 5. Must be able to able to work at least one weekend shift, holidays as scheduled and special events.6. Availability to work predetermined schedule with flexible hours and days as directed by Beach Manager or designee. Physical Environment/Working Conditions/Physical Demands:1. The employee occasionally may have to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.2. The employee will regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls and reach with hands and arms. As well as occasionally crouch, bend, kneel or climb. 3. Working conditions may vary from moderate temperatures and light (office environment) to moderate to extreme heat during the summer months (field environment).4.
