Job Description: Campus Title: Maintenance Assistant Budget Title: Maintenance Assistant Unit: CSEA-OSU Professional Rank and Salary Range: SG-9, $42,641 Duration: Calendar Year (this position works year-round) Brief Description of Duties: SUNY Morrisville is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support campus facilities operations through a combination of general maintenance duties and technical support activities involving electronic building systems. The position performs semiskilled work assisting with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of low voltage infrastructure, devices, building automation systems, including life safety systems, and related building technologies while also supporting traditional maintenance functions across campus. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assists with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of low voltage systems including access control hardware, security devices, communication infrastructure, sensors, controllers, and associated electronic building systems. Provides operational support within building automation systems and security platforms by monitoring system performance, assisting with diagnostics, supporting routine configuration tasks, and performing credential management functions within established procedures. Supports maintenance activities related to life safety systems, fire alarm components, generators, and other electronically controlled building equipment under supervisory direction. Performs semiskilled maintenance work across multiple trades including minor electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and general building repair tasks. Assists skilled trades personnel and technical staff with preventative maintenance, equipment installation, and operational troubleshooting. Provides field support and coordinates vendors and contractors, monitors work progress, and communicates status updates to supervisors. Maintains documentation, service logs, and operational records as required. Responds to service calls and assists with campus operational needs as assigned. When deemed necessary by supervisor, Maintenance Assistants may be assigned to other maintenance activities such as snow and ice control or general facilities support. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Experience supporting electronic building systems, building automation systems, access control systems, life safety systems, generators, or similar technologies is preferred.
