Job Summary: The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial health and strategy of the hotel, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial operations, reporting, and compliance. This role involves leading the finance department, developing financial strategies, and providing critical insights to senior management to support the hotel’s long-term growth and profitability. The Director of Finance is also responsible for budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and ensuring adherence to industry regulations, while promoting a culture of financial accountability across the organization. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy: Lead the financial operations of the hotel, setting the strategic direction for budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning. Work closely with senior management to develop and execute long-term financial strategies, supporting overall business goals. Provide financial insights and recommendations to help drive profitability, revenue growth, and operational efficiency. Financial Reporting & Analysis: Oversee the preparation and review of all financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Analyze financial performance and present actionable insights to senior management, highlighting key trends and performance metrics. Ensure timely and accurate reporting in compliance with regulatory standards and company policies. Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the preparation and management of the hotel’s annual budget and periodic forecasts. Monitor and control financial performance against budget, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed. Work with other departments to ensure alignment of departmental budgets with overall financial objectives. Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, tax laws, and accounting standards. Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard the hotel’s financial assets. Coordinate and oversee audits, ensuring all financial documentation is accurate and audit-ready. Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Provide training, feedback, and professional development opportunities to finance staff. Delegate tasks effectively and ensure the team operates efficiently to meet deadlines and achieve financial goals. Cash Flow & Treasury Management: Oversee cash flow management, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs and strategic investments. Manage banking relationships and optimize financial resources for the hotel. Strategic Business Partnering: Partner with other departments to assess financial impacts of operational decisions, providing support and guidance on cost control and resource allocation. Assist in the development of pricing strategies, capital investments, and cost-saving initiatives to improve financial performance. Financial Governance & Policy Development: Establish and enforce financial policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency and compliance across all departments. Monitor changes in accounting standards, regulations, and tax laws, ensuring the hotel remains compliant with industry standards. Lead efforts to ensure the hotel adheres to corporate governance standards and internal audit requirements. Performance Metrics & Key Indicators: Develop and track key financial performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the hotel’s financial health and operational success. Work with other department heads to establish and measure financial goals and objectives aligned with overall business strategy. Review operational data and performance to provide strategic recommendations for maximizing profitability. Cost Management & Profitability Enhancement: Identify areas for cost reduction and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency across all hotel departments. Oversee pricing strategies and revenue management initiatives to enhance profit margins. Ensure optimal allocation of resources, balancing financial goals with operational needs. Investor & Stakeholder Relations: Manage relationships with stakeholders, investors, and financial institutions, providing regular updates on the hotel's financial performance and forecasts. Prepare financial reports and presentations for board meetings, shareholders, and other stakeholders. Represent the hotel in financial negotiations and discussions, ensuring favorable financial terms and agreements. Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification is preferred. 10+ years of experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a senior finance role, ideally within the hospitality industry. Proven experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting, with a strong understanding of financial regulations. Skills/Specialized Knowledge Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, manage, and develop finance teams. Exceptional financial analysis and forecasting abilities, with an in-depth understanding of accounting principles. Ability to communicate complex financial data to senior management and non-financial stakeholders. Strategic thinker with the ability to influence business decisions through financial insights. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Proficiency in financial software, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and ERP systems. Physical Demands Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working at a desk or computer. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds (e.g., filing documents or office supplies).
