$16.50 - $24.75 Hourly $34,320 - $51,480 Annually This position is a Pay Band C2 Posting Details The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public while promoting economic development and preserving New Mexico's environment. As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. Applicant lists may be screened more than once. Why does the job exist? This position will operate light to medium duty equipment in a safe and efficient manner, perform carpentry, concrete and bridge maintenance work for the safety of the traveling public. This position is with the Bridge Crew, which is a traveling crew. How does it get done? Operate various types of light to medium-duty equipment, maintain bridges, highways and roadways throughout the district. Who are the customers? Traveling public and pedestrians. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have experience in: - Operating light to medium-duty equipment - Working with concrete, repair and maintaining bridges. - Performing snow removal operations on roadways. Minimum Qualification Eighth-grade education. Must possess a valid driver's license and a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), (or equivalent licenses from another state) within one (1) year of hire. Employment Requirements This position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License at time of interview or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Tanker and Hazmat Endorsement may be required. Must successfully pass demonstrated abilities test with a 65% or better. Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and drug test and is conditional pending results. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. May include exposure to: Sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; Moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; Temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operation. High speed/high volume traffic and loud noises; Falls and bruises, considerable physical strain. Standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; Hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds . May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call out for weather (including snow removal), accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; willingness to accept change of geographical assignments; interaction with the public.
