Incumbents are responsible for training, assigning, and supervising subordinates in the proper performance of the assigned supervisory activities of their unit. Employees in this class make independent work decisions based on experience and knowledge of departmental operations, but refer difficult technical policy or procedural questions to a superior for decisions. Supervision is received from an administrative superior, who determines effectiveness of the unit by personal observation, review of reports, public reaction to services provided, and personal conferences on unusual or difficult problems.ResponsibilitiesInstructs and trains employees under supervision in the use of new equipment and cleaning methods. Prepares work schedules, reviews vacation requests, ensures appropriate staffing, completes performance evaluations, and recommends personnel actions. Schedules rounds in assigned work areas to inspect and evaluate the physical condition of the hospital, make sure unit is functioning effectively and efficiently, and determine that instructions are followed, and safety rules are observed. Maintains communication and acts as a liaison between other departments and environmental services to resolve any situation that may occur or to prevent problems from occurring. Provides all supplies and equipment needed for employees to accomplish required work. Ensures that all employees assigned to his/her work group attend in-service training classes on a regular basis. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field in order to enhance expertise. Interprets and transmits policy directives and recommends improvements in procedures. Provides support as environmental worker when necessary. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.ExperienceGenerally, requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Supervisory experience is required.EducationHigh School diploma is required.SkillAbility to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.CredentialsValid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
