The diagnostician will assess students referred to special education, participate in ARD processes, and collaborate with staff and families to develop appropriate educational programming.QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification:Master's DegreeEducational Diagnostician CertificationValid Texas Teaching CertificateTeaching Certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (preferred)Bilingual Educational Diagnosticians: Oral proficiency in Spanish (TOPT - Spanish) preferredSPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:Knowledge of special education law, policies, and diagnostic proceduresUnderstanding of the unique needs of DHH students, including assessment of communication modality and language developmentAbility to assess students with multiple disabilities, including DeafBlindFamiliarity with signed English systems and American Sign Language (ASL)Knowledge of 2nd language acquisition, cultural and linguistic considerations in testingExcellent verbal, written, public relations, and interpersonal communication skillsKnowledge of MISD and RDSPD policies and proceduresBilingual Educational Diagnosticians: Knowledge of test instruments in languages other than English and ability to distinguish language difference vs. learning disabilityEXPERIENCE:Experience selecting and administering appropriate evaluations for DHH studentsMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Travel between 12 partnering districts to conduct assessments and support ARD meetingsCollaborate with campus referral chairs, special education teams, and administrators to ensure timely evaluationsConduct Full and Individual Evaluations (FIEs), including communication assessments for DHH studentsServe as a team member in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) and Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetingsAssist in determining the primary language or mode of communication for DHH studentsInterpret evaluation results to parents and staff and support the development of IEPsEnsure evaluation tools are appropriately selected and administered based on students' communication needsMaintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal regulations related to special education and DHH programmingFacilitate communication and documentation exchange with outside agencies and medical professionalsMaintain strict confidentiality with student and staff informationParticipate in professional development related to evaluation practices and DHH educationPerform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education or designeeSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:NoneWORKING CONDITIONS:Mental Demands:Handle multiple tasks under time constraintsMaintain professionalism and composure under pressurePhysical demands/environmental factors:Extensive travel between campuses and partner districts (up to 12 districts)Transport and lift evaluation materialsProlonged periods of sitting, computer use, and drivingOccasional irregular hoursThe foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.
