QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification:Master's Degree(required)Educational Diagnostician Certification(required)Bilingual Educational Diagnosticians - Demonstrate oral proficiency in Spanish (TOPT - Spanish)SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:Possess knowledge of special education law, policies and procedures, and diagnostics as it applies to assessing children with suspected disabilities.Possess excellent communication (verbal and written), public relation, and interpersonal skills.Possess knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures of MISD.Demonstrate a high degree of knowledge, understanding, and skill with respect to the appraisal process.Possess knowledge and understanding of new state rules, federal regulations, and policies concerning special education and second language students.Bilingual Diagnosticians:Possess knowledge of the district Bilingual/ESL programs, policies, and procedures.Possess knowledge of 2nd language acquisition and the identification of language interference versus a learning disabilityPossess knowledge of test instruments available in a language/s other than English. EXPERIENCE:Successful experience in Special Education.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Work with building principals and other campus support staff to create an efficient and productive special education program.Conduct assessment and assimilate all appraisal data.Serve as a team member on the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee.Serve as a member of the Multidisciplinary Team and assist in the interpreting of the results.Bilingual Diagnosticians will work with the campus diagnostician and/or Child Find team to conduct assessment and assimilate all appraisal data.Assist in interpretation of ARD committee recommendations to respective classroom teachers and parents.Facilitate reciprocal information exchange with outside agencies and medical personnel in planning educationally for the student.Follow rules of confidentiality with parents, students, and school personnel.Keep informed about new state rules, federal regulations, and policies concerning special education.Engage in professional study related to pupil appraisal.Assist in the selection of instruments used in the appraisal process.Assist in conducting ARD meetings.Perform any other duties assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education or Superintendent pursuant to school board policy.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:NoneWORKING CONDITIONS:Mental Demands:Withstanding pressure of meeting stringent time constraints.Handling disagreements in a professional manner.Physical demands/environmental factors:In-District travel.Lifting and transporting testing materials.Occasional prolonged and irregular hoursProlonged use of computer and repetitive hand motionsThe foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.
