As an Underwater Operations Specialist, your responsibilities may include: Conducting various diving salvage operations globally Participating in construction and demolition projects Executing search and rescue missions Supporting military and civilian law enforcement operations Serving as diving evolution technical experts for Special Operations units Providing logistics and security during Expeditionary Warfare missions Performing routine maintenance, restoration, and repair on ships WORK ENVIRONMENT Our motto is 'We Dive the World Over.' You will travel globally, working in diverse underwater environments—from cold, murky waters where you rely on tactile skills, to clear, warm tropical seas perfect for underwater photography. TRAINING & ADVANCEMENT Becoming an Underwater Operations Specialist tests your mental and physical endurance. Successfully completing the training will elevate you among the world’s top underwater professionals. Training involves: Diver Preparation Course (7 weeks) at Naval Training Command for fundamental skills including electrical engineering and physical fitness. Second Class Dive School (15 weeks) for specialized training in air and mixed gas diving, underwater cutting/welding, demolition, and chamber operations. Fleet Training with Navy Diving Units for practical ship repair, salvage operations, and construction using SCUBA or surface-supplied systems. Advanced Training for experienced divers wishing to qualify as First Class or Master Divers, with leadership roles available for college graduates. EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES Members of this elite team have numerous chances to advance their education. Navy training covers areas from explosive ordnance disposal and biological warfare to diving techniques and tactical operational procedures. This training can translate into college credits toward a degree. You may also explore educational programs like the Navy College Program and Tuition Assistance or the Post-9/11 GI Bill. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Open to all U.S. citizens aged 30 or younger, no college degree is required; however, you will face challenging and rewarding training.
